Great movie! It can be viewed from so many different angles: I find it humorous but has some great passages of critique and commentary on the fallout of the 60's culture.
Hunter Thompson is one of the greatest writers of the 21st century and paired with Johnny Depp his words come through perfectly. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a wonderful movie, one of my personal favorites. I'm very excited about The Rum Diaries coming out next month which is also Depp in a Hunter Thompson role. If you like Fear and Loathing and you don't know a lot about Hunter Thompson I'd urge you to watch the documentary Gonzo, The Life and Works of Hunter S Thompson. A great watch while tripping imho.
Great movie! It gets a little slow near the end but the memorable quotes and Depp's Raoul Duke make it absolutely fantastic!
stoner....maybe.... psychedelic double yes! you havent really seen that movie untill you have seen it tripping!
I actually find it kinda boring when i'm not high. however when i am, it just makes so much sense, I could watch it forever.
I love this movie! Last night, I smoked up the rest of my bag and finally got around to watching it. I've read the book before so I knew what I was in for and I wasn't disappointed.
Im probably gonna get blasted for this ,but i thought it was overrated like i liked it but all my friends built it up so much it just wasnt nearly what i expected. I feel like id enjoy the book more.
I enjoyed the book more as well, but I loved this movie. And SWIM loved it even more on acid. SWIM saw it with his wife on one of her first shroom trips as a double feature with NAKED LUNCH. She felt she would have not understood either if not tripping. Gilliam is an amazing director and did make a film that truly made you feel like you could understand a serious drug binge taken to the edge and back. Not with too many gimmicks (some of the trippy gimmicks were awesome, tho') but just in tone and feel of his direction. I also originally underestimated Depp's ability to do the role until I saw it happen. He was HST as much as Benicio (one of the best actors ever) became Dr Gonzo. Book was better, but give this film it's due.
No need to use SWIM here as i understand it. I suppose if you're really concerned about it you can, but there's no rule to that effect or anything.
i'm also really excited about the rum diaries movie! i haven't heard of that documentary before, hopefully i'm able to find it online somewhere!
Johnny Depp spent like 3 months in Hunter's basement living with him...just so he could get the role right. It was really important to him.
