That first album..heard those songs played live on a English radio show that NZBC (new zealands state radio) used to air weekly called "Top of The Pops" about a milliion years ago..seemed exotic, cool and exciting.
Loved it all and bought the record when I saw it.
The presenters name on that show was Brian Matthrews I think. That man or someone else on that show had real good taste.
I got turned onto all sorts of music by that Show.. Toe fat spring to mind as one band I heard on that show..
    bye

Hands down Fragile which also had the best Yes lineup.

The Yes Album or Close to the Edge for sure, although I do love Tales. People dislike tales because they say its so pretentious and long... but yes is known for their overly out-there lyrics and long tunes, so i dont get what all that is about..

...but do you mean the way it is on the original release, or the way it is on the Rhino reissue with the added ocean sounds at the beginning (which were edited off of the original, but always existed on the master tapes)?

Close to the Edge, although their debut album is sounding better with each listen so watch this space!

Its so hard to decided, relayer and Close to the Edge come close to each other, Going for the One is pretty good as well... and fragile, and the Yes album, and tales.... shit I don't know.

I'll say Close to the Edge, because I'm emotionally bonded with that song.

My brother gave me his leather jacket when he left home for art college - it had the yes - close to the edge logo on the back of it.So one day I got it from a library and was hooked ever since. And - wearing that jacket,I remember meeting alot of people just because of the logo.My first memory of the swirly ambient bit in the middle was of being really bored in a slow lesson at school on a summers afternoon and staring out the window at a distant hill and thinking I'd rather be over there listening to the foresaid album - not long after - I was.

There are parts of going for the one I really like too and of course wonderous stories is one of their songs that got/gets quite alot of airplay (in the uk,anyway)

Its good to know younger people listen to the old stuff too!

Relayer or Close to The Edge..... And I would just put Relayer above Close...

    But doesn't anybody rate Union?

I love the way the members came back together for that album
