All the artists mentioned so far had outstanding voices. Today voices are so heavily processed they don't impress as much. Most female pop stars sound the same to me these days.

Well!!!! I asked my partner the question and read the above to give him some ideas.
Oh my. Can of worms or what? Just had a 20 minute lecture on why some of these cannot be classed as rock singers, why some of these cannot sing well but fronted very successful bands and why such loose interpretations of original question are allowed.

So many people always said; Neil Young could not sing. Same of Bob Dylan, I would take their bank roll.

 

I agree that their voices are harsh and not up there with the others. Nevertheless, I am a big Neil fan.

 

Just to keep thread going. I know Joan Baez is more folk music, but after hearing Diamond and Rust on the radio, I had to mention her name.

 

Gotta add Tom Petty to that list!
