Title Speaks for itself. I like Echoes best, I can listen to all 23 minutes through each time it is just an amazing piece of art.
Echoes is probably among my least 20 minutes plus song.. it always seemed so unnecessary. It's like they had an idea for a decent seven minute song and stretched it out with wind noises and aimless blues jamming to fill up space on the LP. As for me, "Flaming"-- Pink Floyd means Syd Barrett. You kids can carry that stadium rock.
So you dislike anything past Piper at the Gates of Dawn and Saucerful of Secrets? I dig the Syd era but there is sooo much great stuff afterwards as well that wouldn't have existed if Barret didn't depart from the band. Oh and I very much disagree with you about echoes. But I also do believe anything after The Wall wasn't the same. Anything in the late 80s or 90s has very few bright spots to it.
they are good after barret, but i just dont dig the vibe... and my favourite track is 'corporal clegg'
There was some good stuff, yeah.. but it was an entirely different band, musically, philosophically.. I like a lot of the mid period stuff that's like cosmic muzak ("Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" immediately comes to mind). Of course everyone in Western Civilization loves Darkside and Wish You Were Here. I thought Animals was really neat, but of course I almost completely lose interest after that.
Yeah I really like Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast but for some reason alot of people I know don't really dig it. My favorite album by them is probably Meddle. But I see what you are saying...from DSOTM and on Roger began to gain a bit too much control of everything.
Apples & Oranges, Candy & a Currant Bun, The Gnome, See Emily Play, Lucy Leave... pretty much everything that Syd wrote for the band.
I can't easily pick a favourite song, as with Pink Floyd yo only get the true brilliance of their music if you listen to the whole albums. However, if I had to choose, at the moment it would be "Coming Back to Life"
