What is your favorite outdoor venue for either a festival or a concert? Mine would have to be SPAC in upstate New York. Its a hell of a nice park, with a lot of room to chill and do whatever you want without getting paranoid or anything.

Sunshine daydream in WV most beautiful venue ive been to, bright green rolling hills, and fluffy trees, really chill too, lots of cool places to camp too, you can camp in the main are which is kind of crouded, or in the woods, or behind the barn stage in a very spacious open area.

Nelson's Ledges Quarry Park or Deer Creek or Harmony Park. ilke to camp in the trees when i see a show.

  5. Ya, I agree that SPAC is really nice. I've only been there for a Phish show in 2004 and it was the coolest place. The Sulfur springs there and the stream are cool to play in. Haha.

When there is a good show there the place feels like heaven. All the trees, and blue sky, and water, and chill people.... LOVE IT.

I like Alpine Valley for the sound, but the lots are always schwag. Usually good lots at the Gorge, but if you're trying to sneak in, the only way is through the bushes, and there are hundreds of snakes in there.

  7. Mine would have to be Red Rocks in Morrison, CO. With Mishawaka, outside Fort Collins, CO as a very close second.

  8. Alpine Valley is my favorite venue. I guess I am kind of partial because it is so close but it is still a great place to see a show.

  9. definitely Red Rocks Amphitheatre west of Denver

the only geologically-formed, open-air amphitheatre in the world

mish first then Red Rocks. I love the small venues! Telluride will take your breath away, but so will every third turn in the road down there.
Lots of chatter locally about the U2 Blood Red Sky video shot god, 18 years ago?!?! at Red Rocks.
Ecstatic, I love that Mark Henson!
I have Ripirian Rapture on my wall.

oh, for a venue, the badshell park in Boulder RIGHT after a rain. Fabulous double rainbows!

I like the Greek in Berkeley. Based on an ancient Greek amphitheatre, the front area is steep solid concrete (looks almost like marble), lending to great sound and intimacy, but still plenty of room to dance in the rows and the grass just above. The last row in the concrete area is made entirely of large thrones that you can sit in. As the theatre is set up on a hill, people on the grass get a view of most of the bay area. Especially beautiful at night!

Btw, Shoreline, also in the bay area, has to be close to the worst venue in the states. I never really enjoy the shows there. sound ordinance, methane gas, eeewww.

Central Park summerstage anyone? I saw an amazing triple bill of the disco biscuits, soullive, and jon scofeild there in '02 and then ani difranco in '03. It's a real pleasant no-hassle and reasonably priced venue, quite rare in NYC, and you can look out and see the city all around you while still maintaining the natural park atmosphere.
