What are your five favorite German beers? (This includes beers from Austria as well.) 1)Aventinus Weizenbock 2)Celebrator Doppelbock 3)Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier 4)Einbecker Mai-Ur-Bock 5)Samichlaus
like most styles, my experience leaves something to be desired...but i'll go for it 1)Celebrator 2)Uerige Sticke Alt 3)Paulaner Hefeweizen 4)Salvator 5)Fransiskaner Hefe-Weisse and Samichlaus is Austrian, although it is a doppelbock which is a german style also i have a hard time with this one. i want to find a place for hofbrau maibock and spaten...
Michael Jackson (not the pop singer) was probably drunk when he wrote that. I remember when he was on Conan a few years back, he definitely seemed drunk. Samichlaus is actually made in Eggenberg, Austria. I am 98% sure of that.
yeah, i'm pretty sure thats the case (that it's austrian) anyway, i forgot to put hofbrau maibock on my list i think, and it definitely should be up there. i've only seen it available once, but it was pretty damn good. i probably would use it to replace either salvator or franziskaner on my list
not in any order sami claus Schneider Aventinus Eggenberg Urbock Dunkel Eisbock Paulaner Salvator Kulmbacher Eisbock
I haven;t tried too many German beers but a few of my faves are Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock, Schneider Weisse, Schneider Aventinus and Paulaner Salvator. The selection of German beers available where I live is absolute rubbish. They have a few wheat beers that are alright. Erdinger (hefe and the dunkel), Konig Ludwig and Paulaner Hefeweizen. Paulaner Salvator used to be available in my area but not anymore.
salvator is pretty good, in my opinion, and is in fact the first doppelbock i've tried and still something i enjoy fairly often if i'm going to buy that style of beer. certainly celebrator is better, though. i do think salvator kicks optimator's ass though...didn't care for optimator much, which is wierd since its made by spaten and i'm a big fan of spaten premium during the hot summer months when i just want a good cold beer. now tonight i'm going to try EKU 28 and have pretty high expectations. considering the praise it gets i doubt i'll be disappointed, but i'll likely be surprised by it regardless of what it's like because i've never had an eisbock before and really dont know what to expect.
