I wanna know everyone's favorite beer. No national brands, unless they are from somewhere other than Canada, US or Mexico. I may soon be moving to Virginia, Tennessee, or Illinois for grad school, so hearing about great local brews from those areas would be cool. My favorite is Chimay, A Belgian Trappist Ale. It's beautiful. Or Kilkenny, but I haven't seen it in the US, so I can't even remember how it tastes. I also loved Toohey's Old. And Carling in South Africa. English Carling didn't seem to taste as nice. Maybe that's because I was so happy to be drinking $0.80 pints when I was in Cape Town or Jefferies Bay, South Africa that It just seemed better than when I got to London and had to pay $4 for the same pint.
which chimay? there are three VERY different beers made by chimay. i dont really have a favorite...there are beers i like, then beers i dont like. some i REALLY like, and some i like when i'm on a budget....some i can simply drink on occasion when i REALLY need to conserve funds. right now i could definitely go for a fullers 1845
cinq cents is great. i also love the grande reserve. i would probably be more likely to buy the cinq cents usually, but it depends on my mood. the premiere is of course wonderful, but i just dont enjoy it as much. have you had orval?
My top Five in no particular order... Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout Young's Double Chocolate Stout Fuller's London Porter Rogue's Dead Guy Deschutes' The Abyss ~
i'd kill for one of those right now, but i can't drive that far in this weather just to get beer when i'm poor as it is. if i want beer i'll walk to the gas station and get some blue moon or killians or something like that, but i'm not driving in this. as it is i have a remaining sierra nevada pale ale and a ton of franzia....also some pot and a tiny amount of coca. i'll probably chew the leaves, smoke a bowl or two, have just one glass of wine (its drinkable, but not good at all) and the beer.... still, its the kind of day i REALLY want an imperial stout.
Sounds like you might be looking for a lighter beer, then. Your store has a website...http://www.crownwineandspirits.com/index.asp I would recommend the following from their stock... Avery IPA-skunky and good Avery Beast-a Belgian style Pretty much any of the Averys, and not much else, unless you like a REALLY hoppy beer, then try a Dogfish Head 60- or 90 Minute. I really wouldn't subject yourself to the 120, if I were you. They have a really wierd online stock.
so many to choose from, but my go-to beers are fat tire and dogfish head. also, i've been really enjoying hopslam, which is made by bell's. 10% apv.
manitoba is a province, not a state, but i live in central ohio. we had a fairly mild winter (most of it in the 30s or so) but had about a week or two of REALLY nasty weather. old rasputin is good, but its a very heavy, very strong, very dark beer that wouldnt likely be AS enjoyable in 80 degree weather, but would still be quite good. i'd kill to have 80 degrees, and i'd kill a lot more folks for hot weather than for beer..... orval is great, but i like chimay cinq cents better. but the price for orval is awesome...i can get a bottle for 3 bucks.
$3 for Orval? Are you sure about that? Here it's like $6.49 a bottle. If Orval was $3 a bottle, I'd buy it all the time. I love Orval.
dogfish head 60 minute ipa sierra celebration three flloyds alpha king.. and my default beer is sierra neveda pale ale. just gimme hops.
god damned positive about that. its 5.99 usually if i see it at liquor stores, but at world market (at least, at ONE world market i frequent) it appears to ring up improperly in their system. its sticker is labelled 2.99, and indeed it does ring up at 2.99 per bottle, but the register display rings up as pinkus munster altbier rather than orval, and they dont even carry that beer. but they keep putting more orval on the shelves, keep pricing it at 2.99, and it keeps ringing up this way. so i'm happy havent had it too recently, but its definitely still there and at that price. maybe i should pick some up today. as it is i've got about 1-2 shots of jura left as well as one columbus pale ale (a nice, typically hoppy APA....pretty decent, really) but i get my wisdom teeth out tomorrow, and i'm not supposed to drink anything bubbly, carbonated, or whatever for a few days. also they'll have me on painkillers. i've heard most people recover faster than expected, but i still want to try to be good and not drink through straws, smoke, or drink beer or sparkling wine for the next few days. also since i'll have the medicine, too much alcohol would be a bad idea. maybe i should get one of those little fourpacks of single servings of wine? i dunno. but i know i'll enjoy a beer or two tonight goddamnit
which paulaner? they have a wide array of styles which they offer. i've only had the hefeweizen, the doppelbock (salvator), and the oktoberfest.....all are great, but i usually like the hefeweizen the best.
