Hmmmm....Mine are Looking for Alibrandi (my fave book as well) and Rabbit Proof Fence. I've heard Lantana is good so I plan on seeing that.
i don't like looking for alibrandi much (just not my cup of tea), but i love rabbit proof fence. and yeah, in my opinion, you've gotta see lantana.
Malcom is the best. Priscillia, Queen of the Desert is the second best. 'Nuff Said. ... Oh, and The Proposition is pretty good too.
i don't believe there is such a thing as "best" when it comes to art. anyway, i too rate all of those very highly.
well The Proposition is awesome; an instant contender with 'the classics'. I agree Rabbit Proof Fence is also up there. Can't believe The Castle has gone unmentioned...or better yet Puberty Blues--how else would I have learned what a 'mole' is.
Theres a film called walkabout with Jenny Agutter and an Aboriginal tribesman - not sure if its Australian but definately set in Australia. Also - 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' - and 'The year my voice broke' was one I enjoyed too.
how's it hiliarious? i mean i think there's a lot of funny parts in it; just not all of it. not the violence...
australian movies?? I don't know much about australian filmography, but I'd say there's not a great production. What do you think are most interesting movies, concerning the aboriginal themes? I spent three months in australia, I had tv available (well, I dind't use to watch it so much..I used to go out at evenings) , but I do not remember a film which caught my fancy..
pfft; that's just what you get for relying on shitty tv. maybe you should have gone to the cinemas if you wanted to see a good australian film? and just so you know; films such as the matrix and star wars were shot with australian production crews; and australian films have continuously won awards for the last couple of years now.
Aboriginal flicks like Jedda, Walkabout and Rabbit Proof Fence. We make a lot of comedies like The Dish, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Croc Dundee is an all time laugh, The Wog Boy, Muriel's Wedding Picnic at Hanging Rock is a great mystery and kinda creepy. It was shot in the 70's and is quite a famous film. War movies Galipolli, The Light Horseman, Breaker Morant Lantana Mad Max Phar Lap The Man from Snowy River Strictly Ballroom Malcolm To Name A Few..................
check out Little Fish its out now or coming to DVD in a month I think...deep lil aussie flic. I thought Crackerjack was alright funny but kinda bias because they filmed it on my street and I used to walk by the location everyday on my way to work. But more Indigenous Aussie are coming. The govts push to reidentify with Aboriginal Australia has been seen with a huge amount of grant money now available to artists that will explore the culture through film. The big switch is to get away from the mistreated plight to Aboriginal Aussies post 2000--giving more positive roles and storylines to change the cultural perception.
