My son is over weight due to having a medical condition that has been going on for 10 years and involved surgery and rehab to correct. During that time physical activity was limited for sometimes 2 years at a time and it has caused a weight issue.

We are working on that at the present time and he is not only watching his intake but has started to go to the gym and is increasing his routine to become fitter.

When seeing someone who is over weight or out of shape sometimes there is a reason for that and the solution is a long term one.

Anyone who attempts to make improvements should be applauded and supported.

There's better exercises than running that's for sure.

It can also damage tissues. I ran in high school and it caused me several, very painful problems due to running on hard surfaces. There are a lot of better exercises that don't have as much impact on tissues and joints.

If a person does run, they should think about the surfaces they are running on.

    It is convenient though.

To lose 14 lbs., you need to burn a total of 49000 calories. ... Walking at a pace of 3.5 miles per hour will expend around 320 calories...bla bla bla just copy/ pasta'd that.

I would say it depends mostly on the individual and their diet. You might have to run a long time if you don't lay off the Crispy Cremes!

I'm the opposite anyway. I gotta pound back a lotta food and work out if I want to gain weight. If I don't stay on it I go right back to my skinny old self lol :D

Running can be fairly low impact if you are careful and don't over do it. Jogging on the otherhand is BAD because you are landing on your heels instead of the balls of your feet.

It would depend on many factors, like:

    A person's metabolism
    Their muscle mass
    What they eat
The amount of sleep they get

When I began my weight loss, I would easily lose that much in a month or less. I basically went from being obese to a normal weight in about 3 months. People have told me they have never seen anyone lose as much weight as me, as fast as I did. And I've managed to keep it off.

I lose weight really fast w minimal effort ... I often get down to losing a pound a day 3 weeks out of the month and I'm not even eating too few calories. But yea there's lots of reasons for that w me and I have to try sometimes not to lose it too fast... cause then I start to feel weak esp if I don't get enough protein.
