This may seem weird to any one who remembers my old posts from years back, but Ive gone veggie, more for health than moral issues. ie.. try digesting a side of pork ribs after having your gall bladder removed. Even lean chicken breast gives me issues. Anyone have suggestions on different whole protein sources, and or good information sources on veg-nutrition. I still have a lot of trial and error in finding out what I can and cant eat, luckily I'm not a picky eater. Fats are another issue, I'm trying to find good sources that don't set me off. Fresh avocado seems to be the easiest fat to digest so far, and then small amounts of nuts. The only meat Ive been eating is salmon, i seem to be able to tolerate small amounts of it and it doubles as both a good fat and protein source.
Hmm.....I'm no expert on the subject but we only eat maybe one serving of meat a day and were vegetarians for some time in the past. Just off the top of my head....we eat a lot of eggs (from our own chickens....kind of a bonus), peanuts and peanut butter, cottage cheese, beans....I don't know....there are lot's of options but you just have to decide what works for you.
Coconut oil is an excellent source of healthy, non-animal based saturated fat. Olive oil, and some nut oils (macadamia nut oil) as well. Nuts and seeds (chia, hemp, flax) are a good source of both fat and protein.
thanks, haven't heard a chia, something new for me to look up. im actually fairly knowledgeable on nutrition, just looking for things i dont know. Maby if i had applied some of that knowledge i wouldn't have lost my gall bladder...but I'll leave that for another thread, hind sight is usually sharper than forsight. an inability to eat had me drop from 240lbs to 115lbs post surgery. Has been a fight to bulk back up. I'm still thin as a rail, but Ive gained enough weight that i don't look like an Auschwitz victim anymore.
Hi cousinit! If you're lacto-ovo, milk, cheese and eggs will give you both fats and proteins. However, you should keep an eye on cholesterol. If you're vegan, it's not much more difficult. Always mix two different protein sources or you won't have the right proportion of amino acids. For example, you can mix beans and corn. For fats, I think Pressed_Rats has already said everything.
