Anyone know anything about fasting? I want to do one to clear my system out, maybe a juice fast or something, but don't know where to start. If anyone has any links or info about a good fast program that is healthy (something that won't fuck my body up), please post it.
I never really followed a plan or anything, just always ate really lightly for 3 days before my fast, lots of veggies and fruits....then fast, with plenty of juices and water, then come off the fast just as slowly as you went on...
I think you need to design-your-own-fast and find what works for you. Ask yourself if you're doing it for health or spiritual reasons. And also be aware of how your current level of health will be affected by it. I personally like to do a raw-food detox before attempting any kind of fast, just to prepare and strengthen my body. But you gotta find your own groove, y'know?
As for designing a fast, look at your needs as an example, I have lots of mucous secretions and chronic ear infection (glue ear, not active right now) I'm inclined to try the master clense "lemonade" because I know that lemon and cayenne clears crap out of my system well. For my son, its lots of veggies, and my spouse does REALLY spicy stuff. I did a juice fast first ('bout a week), and a complete water only fast a few weeks later (3-day weekend long) looking at a longer one on vacation this spring. What is your motivation for a fast?
I do fasting through two consecutive meals on the first Sunday of every month (then you give whatever you would have spent on that food to the Church and they compile it up and at holidays tehy buy food and clothes for people who can't afford it)
I was about to ask if you were LDS, then I bothered to read your avatar area. Is the fast really common in LDS adherants?
i was gonna ask if you were a mormon and then i saw you were i am too...but not practicing......i sometimes think of fasting for this reason again and yes drumminmama it is common...almost all mormon practices are consistent through all the world the lemon cleansing, is that for your intestines alone?
fasting is a great thing to do...afterwards (even if you make a few mistakes) you feel pretty great. I'm probably going on the cabbage soup diet over this winter break for a week or two, I'm trying it as a cleanse and to help jump start some weight loss. I've been losing weight for about a month, I've gone from 163 to 158 in about 4-6 weeks.
hmmm.. I have a friend who describes herself as Hasidic Mormon (as a joke, I'm Jewish by birth) and she notes a vegetarian by scriptural injunction segment of teh church, and I know not all LDS women use the undergarment. works on my kidneys and liver, it seems, which allows other crap to dump out.
i was brought up fasting when sick...it makes so much more sense to rid your body of the toxins than put more in...but these days i find it so much harder to do - not having someone to look after me...i get so weak and none of my friends understand it - they all think im going to die!!!!
