I've heard a lot of talk about "fake hippies" and "real hippies" for years and really don't think that people who use such terms know what they are talking about. Ever read the Dr Suess story of the plainbelly sneetches and the starbelly sneetches? That story pretty much sums up the whole thing in my mind. We can't just be a sneetch (switch word sneetch with hippie) we have to be star belly sneetches. (switch with term "real hippie") as opposed to those plain belly sneetches (switch with term "fake hippie"). It's a silly game. As far as I'm concerned, the only qualification one needs to be a so-called real hippie is wanting to be one. Since no one who is not one ever wants to be one, no one who wants to be one can be anything else. The only way a hippie can be fake is if the hippie tries to not be a hippie!

    I'm a real hippo.

Watch out, I can spray shit on you with my tail if you're not careful.

Yup. As soon as I see threads like "Love (real) hippies!" or something along those lines, my mind farts or I have a mental giggle. Whichever you prefer, really.

I'm pretty curious about that mind fart. Could you make a sound recording?

You know... Hippie was never meant as a compliment... Just something for ya'll to think about.
I consider myself a hippie, and anyone who lives an alternative lifestyle outside of the "norm." It doesn't matter what music you listen to, or what style of dress you wear. What matters is what's on the inside.

Sorry, the mind fart is very quiet, you wouldn't be able to hear it on a recording. But just think of a brain, a nice, fleshy, pulpy, fat greyish-pink brain making a small, but quite loud and discernible, fart. That is what happens when I read topics like those. :D

the whole divide between "fake" and "real" is pretty much whats dissatisfied me in the whole culture
scratch that, in this whole society

when i was 15 i was ignorant, i had good intentions but ignorance is ignorance
and i think that there are too many people stuck in an ignorant 15 yr old mentality
i have "hippie" qualities that will still with me for the rest of my life
the only fake in my mind is not being true to myself, and i think that the fake people out there are the ones lying to themselves

hippie should not be about pot and tie dye and the beatles and shit
true hippie should be a love within, a love that allows your to be true to yourself, true to your nature

If we keep arguing about "real" and "fake" hippies, we're all going to turn into emos.
    "Dude, I'm so emo."
"No, man, you're just scene. I'm the real emo."

But having a thousand different posts on "What Is A Hippie?" is definitely going to help... Not.

So am I plain belly emo or a starbelly emo? [IMG]

A thousand might be overkill, but I think it's good if people discuss what the word "hippie" means. I mean, at some point I think we should decide if it HAS any meaning besides just an outdated stereotype.

Everyone knows the starbelly emos are Teh Coolest, Yo. That's why so many emos get start tattoos. lol. :p

You're right, discussion is good. It's just that I'm kinda impatient, so when I see a bunch of people having the same debates over and over again, it gets sort of tiring. But the world doesn't revolve around me, obviously. So I'd best just let it be. (Isn't that some awesome rhyming there? lol.)

even though i hate to diss ppl i have to agree that emo kids are pretty sad and pathetic, if they could only goto a third world country and actually see how the locals live in the worst living conditions and their living arnt that good and the fact that most of thoses locals will have huge smiles on their faces and a positive outlook on life maybe those emo kids who think that their lives really arnt as bad as it seems and they can change their outlook on life. BE POSITIVE, Everything will work out fine!!!

Some people can't help being sad. Depression, you know? I've never been an emo, but I've been depressed before, and remembering that there are people who are worse off than I am doesn't do anything to get rid of my depression. So sometimes it's not just a matter of having a bad attitude.

Of course, who's to say whether emos are truly depressed or are just... well, emo. But still, it bothers me when people say mean things about emos. They are people, too, and they deserve respect and love just like everyone else.

true enough,i use to get depressed to, but one day i was having a bad mood swing/depression but then i found out my friends dad mom and sister were killed in a car accident and i realised i really didnt have anything to be depressed about up until that point then i felt really bad for my friend, but when you get depressed you just got to try to look at everything thats good in your life and try to make it outway the bad, thats how i deal with depression, it may not work for everybody though
