I was raised catholic...I attended catholic school until I was a senior in h.s. :(
After that whole experience...I decided to no longer be catholic...It is sad..but the catholic schooling turned me away from religion completely..
I was to the point where I did not belive in a God anymore...
Recently, I discovered..it feels good to believe in something...Religion is a good thing...no matter which one it is..it gives u something to believe in..and it gives u structure...No matter how I look at it...religion is a positive thing..
I have been thinking i'd like to regain my faith in god...
w/ recent events in the world (not just the war) if feel like the end times r soon going to be upon us...and .. well... when this tribulation happens..i want to disappear rather than be 'left behind'
i think i need to start REALLY believing...because my whole life...i've never really bought into this stuff..but deep down i do know there is a higher power...and there is more to life than just being alive..I just feel like when i decide to believe..it's going to already be too late...so maybe i should start now...anyone else ever feel this way....or any thoughts on the tribulation...

**plz keep any negative comments to yourself..I want this to be a positive and serious thread...

You lived through a good reason why we are never to be putting our faith in 'people'.
This is not to say there wont be a lot of great people who will bless your life.. but you cant decide what is Truth or what is False based on how some person/people make you 'Feel'.

Some of the most amazing and generous people I have met were Athiests.
Athiesm doesnt become 'More True' because of that.

I can think of a Christian who really did me in once.
Christs Redemption on the Cross does not somehow 'lose some power' based on that.

Did Jesus stand before Pilate or not?

If a Catholic Girlfriend burns me badly... Does that change what happened or not?

No.. dont bother basing anything on how humans work.
Base it on what is real or not.

My advice to you is....if it feels right, GO for God...
    Its sooooo worth it.
pray to him...ask for his Holy spirit to work in your life. HAve a relationship with him and see how he can change your life for the better.
Also try and read your bible...its a good read.
God Bless...need any help or just wana talk then u can PM me any time.

As you understood people in Church were certainly not able to raise all god-childrens on their own personnal path with God

You possibly could think about what is wrote by Jesus about Church
The living body of Jesus Christ, was maybe not really wanted by Him

But it does have defined many of the problems humankind faced, by example this last century.

Religion is not something that must be used to show, but used to see.

wanting to believe so that you can CYA against "the end times" (or to keep the hell out of hell & skate on through them pearly gates) is a recapitulation of "pascal's wager" & (imho) a sucker's bet...

how can you force yourself to believe so that you can save yourself from eternal torment (& wallow in eternal bliss)???

    ~
    a little sufi story:

a seeker after truth was shown three different groups of people...
the first group was agitated; when he asked why, the seeker was told that this group was stirred up by constant wishing for heavenly destination...
the second group was despondent; the seeker was told that this was due to constant fear of eternal damnation...
the third group were serene, and their faces shone with a radiance that was obvious to all who looked on them; when the seeker asked about the source of their joy, he was told that these people neither pined for heaven's rewards, nor feared hell's torments, but were transformed by their love of god...

How necessary it is to die each day, to die each minute to everything, to the many yesterdays and to the moment that has just gone by! Without death there is no renewing, without death there is no creation. The burden of the past gives birth to its own continuity, and the worry of yesterday gives new life to the worry of today. Yesterday perpetuates today, and tomorrow is still yesterday. There is no release from this continuity except in death. In dying there is joy. This new morning, fresh and clear, is free from the light and darkness of yesterday; the song of that bird is heard for the first time, and the noise of those children is not that of yesterday. We carry the memory of yesterday, and it darkens our being. As long as the mind is the mechanical machine of memory, it knows no rest, no quietude, no silence; it is ever wearing itself out. That which is still can be reborn, but anything that is in constant activity wears out and is useless. The wellspring is in ending, and death is as near as life.

Heh... most people I know, including myself, grew up in a Catholic church and looked back at it with a sense of nothingness. The experience did not turn me away from faith, but it did turn me away from false doctorine.

It's good to hear that you want to come back to the path of faith, and I encourage you to do so. If you have any questions or ever need to talk, I am always around.
