any of you not have it? Have it? I keep trying to get off it so I can stop spewing my consciousness into nothingness. Before facebook I wasted time by reading books and posting on forums and blogging, now I just spew into nothingness. But I don't want to lose all those contacts! I've managed to quick some pretty hardcore addictions, but nothing has ever got me hooked in such a way that I can't imagine life without it as facebook -- not even cigarettes or heroin. Honestly maybe the only thing that is on level with facebook in terms of not being able to imagine life without it forever is alcohol. But that's alcohol. And I know a lot of people will say "It's a tool" and "it's about how you use it", but heroin and morphine are considered a tool in medicine -- and it does depend on how you use it, but personally, I have a problem. A very bad problem. Now That I have a phone with 3g, I often don't go ten minutes without checking it, it's in my dreams, it wakes me up at night, I usually just scroll down the same page over and over again. I think I'm letting it give me mental problems
Funny you should say this.I always spurned Facebook as a posey waste of time, but was so bored I actually joined up to it a few days ago.I befriended a friend from hip who I used to yahoo message occasionally and we had a short chat.I looked up an old childhood friend and left her a message.I still haven't got used to all the functions and don't really see it becoming a big part of my life right now.It seems okay and is obviously useful/fun for a lot of people.I must say,I think Facebook is okay, but I do prefer heroin...
Yeah of course so do I. I'm just saying that, for me, facebook is more addictive. I'm surprised that there are some of you who still aren't on. Maybe it's just the young people and teenagers that are all addicted to it... Honestly i just resent the idea of it. Man they own all my artwork and all my poems and all my photos and I don't even own those. That makes me sad The problem is that they make it soo easy to come back once you've deleted it. You delete it and even if sdomebody else opens it on your computer, you can accidentally fall back into it, because they'll never delete any of your data, so it all just automatically goes back to the way it was before as soon as you cave.
Actually, teens and young folk have moved on to other social networks. Facebook is now the thing that parents do. My facebook is usually up and if I'm at my computer I'm checking it frequently. I don't post personal shit and neither do many of my friends. I'm on it for the groups. Pages like I Fucking Love Science, Tysonism, Lovecraft Society and Street Art News to share articles, memes and art.
yeah I'm actually in most of those groups. What social networks would you say teens have moved on to? When I walk around my college computer labs, I mostly see blue and white screens at any given time -- whether a class is going on or no. I don't share a lot of personal things, per se, but I share a lot of my creative efforts like my art, music, poetry, writing, random ideas, etc. I wouldn't share stuff of a highly personal subject matter though, or important personal details about my life. I am, however concerned about privacy and the way that it seems to sort of swallow up the creative energy you put into it without giving anything back. It just saps your creativity. What are the other social networks people are using though? I know of a few but could you provide me with any examples?
Snapchat and Spotify, I believe are the lastest thing Wait...not Spotify....damn, I can't remember what it's called. ed. Storify
yeah, but those aren't social networks. They are social ways of sharing media, but they're not strictly speaking social networks like facebook or myspace or diaspora or google+ Like I'm sure most of those site's users also have a facebook tab open.
Sort of. Storify is a parser but SnapChat is being used in a social networking way. I wish I could find the articles about how teens were leaving facebook, but it's really late and I'm too tired to search for the stats. Maybe I'll look tomorrow.
OK yeah I know a few are leaving facebook. But not enough. I wish there was a bigger migration so I could leave too without fear of leaving all my contacts behind. I guess I'm being a follower no matter what but it's just really hurting my life
never had it. probably never will. i'm not boycotting it particularly, i just see no reason to put myself on it. i'm saying probably, because if i find some value to it, i'll consider anything that i might. i just have yet to and don't expect to.
Facebook is retarded. I would never sign up for something that is such a government tool for accessing personal information.
I use it to keep in touch with the people I've met from all over the world. It's much more convenient than having a bunch of email addresses. I barely ever write something public or change my status or even comment on stuff.
I wish I was still at this stage like I wish I could smoke one cigarette a week at a bar. I gotta get off this shit or I'm gonna die of sleep deprivation. It's worse than meth. Can it even be fully deleted?>
facebook gets on my nerves, but I have one. I don't check it obsessively but I get on a couple of times a day. There are a few interesting people on facebook that I like to keep up with. the government can access information posted on HF just as easily as facebook and the things people post here would probably be of more interest to them than any of the meaningless drivel people post on facebook.
information on HF is not as easy to access as facebook and much much less useful to the government, and also not often associated with people's name and address.
