I just finished watching this flick and it was really fucked up. What was with that sex cult? Can somebody explain the ending to me when nichole kidman says "we need to do one thing:fuck" What did you guys think of the movie?
God I saw this movie and normally I would say I love Stanely Kubrick but they guys who made it after he died need to be punished for how horrible it was.
This pot is making you aggressive! Haha you can tell tom cruise doesnt have much experience smoking, if any. nicole... she's probably smoked some in her day i thought the movie was alright, and yes, pretty messed up
Eh, you should see how aggressive my girl gets when even just contact high. Anyways, whether the film has deeper meaning into the context of America or not. As far as the more opaque symbolism goes, as for relationships, this movie took an odd turn or two too many and bit it's own head off. It started out a masterpiece, ended a disaster. I wouldn't expect such an amateur show of over-ambition from Kubrick, but then again; A Clockwork Orange.
I didnt really understand the movie, it was so slow movie and took FOREVER for me to be able finish watching the movie
The movie explored the question 'what is cheating?' Is fantasizing and dreaming/lusting for another person cheating? Is paying a hooker to talk cheating? The sex cult is for those who wish to live out their fantasies anonymously without fucking up their professional/personal life. Many people have different boundaries surrounding their sexual habits and different ideas as to what is alright or taboo. The end is the breaking point in their sexual frustrations. They both had secrets that created separation and ruined their intimacy. Fucking would be the way to fix their problem. After all they both need a good fucking from each other and the grass would not seem so green on the other side.
Actually, i didn't like Clock ~ whoever those folks were, whatever their motivations or feelings or whatever were? i didn't really care. They were disgusting, and i didn't want a fly-on-the-wall's view of a Day into Their Lives. Sorry.
Excellent explaination! Now that you've said it, i see it, but the movie wasn't able to deliver that message.
I didn't think it was badly made. I thought it was good, but sickening and I wouldn't want to see it again.
I did a "Nude Review" of this flick when it first came out, deriding it for the American censorship of the orgy ball scene. But then I discovered that the whole movie is based on a 1926 story by a German author. AHA! That explains the whole lame premise of this movie, where a man will get bent outta shape because his wife has fantasies. Why they have this elaboragte 18th Century "Hellfire Club" orgy instead of just a good old get naked and jump in a pile swinging like was big in the '80s. So, my biggest fault was whoever decided to take this story and put it into modern New York. It woulda worked better as a 1920s period piece. Then you would have understood all the misguided macho cultural foibles of that era, which are no longer relavent in a post sexual revolution world. I didn't care for the movie at all. Kubrick claimed that the Cruises fucked it up for him, but hey, Stan you were supposed to be in charge.
YOUR "profound revelation" becomes MY profound revelation! You're right ~ THAT explains it ALL! :sifone:
