I really, really, really, really want to win the lottery. So I bought a ticket. statistically, my odds of winning are about 1 in 14 million ... that's where you guys come in maybe if everyone focuses on the idea of me winning the lottery, it will actually happen!!!! ok, so the drawing will be saturday at 11:20 pm eastern (us). if it helps, you can imagine me posting a follow up thread titled, "everyone, this is awesome, I won!" ...and, for helping me win, I'll throw everyone an awesome party!
Pool with a hundred people here on HF (if there are 100 active people still on this board). Then your odds improve from 1 in 14 million to 1 in 140,000. Of course, you have to share the jackpot and only get 1/100th. But hey. That's life.
I was once told that I'd be more likely to get hit by lightning in broad daylight than win the lottery. But I keep trying anyway. There was a lady a few weeks ago that got all the numbers on the Powerball when it was like 40 million. She was rolling in dough (she thought). Turned out she bought the ticket a half hour after the deadline and didn't even know it till the next day. Ain't that a hole in the boat. Wishing you luck m8!
I kind of look at the lottery as a stupid tax. A tax on those foolish enough to buy in. But hey, whatever floats your boat
hey! well, you can generally expect to lose your money enjoying the fantasy of winning can make it worth a dollar. you might also find the marginal utility of the jackpot adjusted for the odds to be worth more than a dollar. besides, I think the only reason I didn't win is because I didn't have a big enough psychic posse to back me up
I'm just not a gambling man I suppose. I didn't mean to sound insulting, it's just something I tell myself whenever I feel tempted to indulge.
Whoa, Eurojackpot is 120.000.000,00 HRK And 4 more days, I should really play. Winning would solve some of my problems.
it might create some more problems for you too. lots of people who win the lottery get kidnapped or killed. imho, maybe go for a smaller jackpot with better odds. still, I think it's ok to buy a ticket. the value of it is in the not-completely-impossible-but-incredibly-unlikely fantasy that you will win.
