Ever feel like a lot of people take things too seriously?

I mean, obviously not everything - some things are serious, or meaningful to the person. For example, human rights or starvation or things like that.

But, I feel like... day-to-day, many people that I speak to really do take things very seriously. They seem to make things into a big deal very quickly, and I'm usually on the sidelines going like "But... does it REALLY matter though?" lol :)

I've just learned that... the world is pretty crazy. There's always a whole bunch of stuff going on and the vast majority of it really doesn't matter that much or at least I can't affect every tiny thing that happens. So the best idea is to just roll with things a bit and not get all worked up!

Now, as I say some things ARE serious... but do you guys ever get the impression that... you know... people just get stressed out too easy?

Varying levels of attachment.. it's quite interesting to watch. Moving back to SA from the UK has been very interesting from that standpoint.

Mah.. could write a whole series of books on the subject, but just to see how much circumstances affect views and attitudes on life..

The UK is very uptight, it's heavily regulated, and as far as bureaucracies go I think it's way up there.. very heavily attached to.. well, first world shit. Materialistic to the max, and with all the free health care and education, benefits, and all the rest of it... nothing can actually go wrong, but everyone needs something to go wrong every now and then... so we make mountains out of mole hills.

SA is much more bohemian.. it's still developing, and the harsh realities of life are still very apparent which, I think, reinforces the will to actually live. Shit goes wrong all the time, and there are thousands living(barely) wrong. The ups and downs in life are much more apparent here which leads to a much stronger spiritual perspective, whether people are aware of it or not.

I'm also speaking generally, but there is a very apparent trend. It'll dive into the first world bullshit eventually, but for now it's just a political and economic "fuckup"..

yeah that's what I thought haha

I am actually pretty happy when everything is just fine and chugs along, but I do notice I appear to be in a minority.

Perhaps people are just bored, I dunno.

    I think you're right though :)

    Reminds me of this :)

Perhaps it's watching stuff like that that's shaped me into trying to take things a bit less seriously.

Sometimes I think you just need to remind yourself that it really isn't that big a deal :)

On certain matters it seems I am the more serious one, on others it seems to be others. Yeah, it's just the individual level of attachment to things and matters, which differ not only per person because of their associations and concerns but also can differ on the moment, the mood and the situation.

Like on some forums for instance I can talk about the same topics as here and make the rudest jokes and nobody takes offense to that. Also, entirely serious posts are often ridiculed just for being too serious. Every once in awhile that happens here too but when it was a serious topic I don't go along with it here simply because different forum means different context. Works the same in 'real life' :p

lol, did you mean me, or others?

I know I have started some more serious threads. But some things in life ARE serious... just... not as many things as many other people make out! xD
