    Equilibrium,
A great SC-FI idea that, when translated onto film, becomes only slightly better than 'THE MATRIX'.

But what do expect from a film that un-ashamedly rips-off 'The Matrix' at every turn.

Even down to the hilariously corny psuedo-martial arts.

OK, so the story is slightly more imaginative than 'The Matrix', and the art and set designs are slightly more powerful than 'The Matrix'.

Sure, and Christian Bale is slightly more believable than poor Kanue Reeves.

But believe it or not, and I almost didn't believe it even after I saw it, Equilibrium has none other than EMILY WATSON.

    NO SHIT!!

Is Emily slumming, or was Emily captivated by the story's slightly-fulfilled potential?!?

Maybe Emily is broke and needs the cash, or maybe behind those strange eyes stands an Emily who is strange.

LOVED the movie, definatly was able to tell what influenced that flick, but heres somethin pretty cool, theyre making a movie called V for Vendetta, with a similair vision of the future, and whats i found cool/funny is they used the music from equilibrium in the trailer, i hope they borrow more from this flick.

and those action scenes were badass

In my opinion the Matrix trilogy sucked. I liked the first one quite a bit, no doubt about it.. but the other two just got more and more boring and annoying.

Equilibrium obviously got some of its motivation and ideas from Matrix, but all in all, I thought it was a much better story.

    My 2 cents,

Sure the wardrobe in Equilibrium was the same as The Matrix but besides that it was a different movie.

    only 3 times better...

Grand theft of ideas and 'styles' (at the directors own admission) but bringing also a uniqueness and originality to a low budget film.. great cast great action soppy ending

I really enjoyed "Equilibrium." Christian Bale was very good in it, and I really enjoyed the plot. Sure, it borrowed a lot from different concepts, but what is really new under the sun these days anyway?

i dont think it had much from the matrix at all

    1984+farenheit 451+logans run

first matrix had some cool shit going on, then it just went bad, revolutions was worst movie of the year hands down.

You guys are a hard crowd.

Why aren't you slobbering all over 'The Matrix' like the rest of us.

But at least ya give it grudging credit.

I share that thought about 1/2 '1984' and 1/2 'The Matrix'.

I was trying to picture '1984', but with an emotional restriction, and the picture reminds me of 'Equilibrium'.

You don't even lower yourselves to mention the name 'Emily Watson'!!!

Every e-motionless one of you belongs in 'Equilibrium'!!

imho the comparisons are thin but are there..i suppose putting 1/2 '1984' and 1/2 'The Matrix' is easier than trying to expalin what the film is about on the poster.. and people like both so lots more would go and see it.

Best bit in the Matrix films

Smith/Oracle: Wait... I've seen this. This is it, this is the end. Yes, you were laying right there, just like that, and I... I... I stand here, right here, I'm... I'm supposed to say something. I say... Everything that has a beginning has an end, Neo.

    {Neo begins to get up again}

Smith/Oracle: What? What did I just say? No... No, this isn't right, this can't be right. Get away from me!
Neo: What are you afraid of?
    Smith/Oracle: It's a trick!
Neo: You were right, Smith. You were always right. It was inevitable.
    {Smith/Oracle imprints over Neo}
    Smith/Oracle: Is it over?

    {Smith/Neo nods. Deus Ex Machina in 01 realizes what Neo has done and surges electricity through his body}

Smith/Oracle: Oh, no, no, no. No, it's not fair.

    (01)
Deus Ex Machina: It is done.

The rest a mish mash of mildly related action sequences (very good ones though).. Did the Matrix have 'Gun Kata' ??? no

Emily has to pay the morgage as well, stop being a snob.

They had emotions just not the extreme highs and lows.. Thats why it is called Equilibrium .

reminded me a great deal of a more action orientated version of faerenhiet 451.
dont really see the matrix connection tho.

    there is no matrix connection.

    gun kata is so badass.

one last time, equilibrium just borrowed from logans run, farenheit 451, and 1984.

The clothing and the 'old fashioned' phone..just a bit of visual styling nothing plot wise.

i thought there was a matrix connection. maybe not in direct story line, but in the big picture of what both films were saying is the same.

MMMM thinking about it..i think it was my reluctance to play that similarity game..

I would imagine all films of this nature have a 'connection' i bet the Matrix has a connection to other films before it.. Not a new concept i suppose... State controled populace 'big brother' the plucky 'ordinary person' fighting the 'system' etc etc etc .

    Like mrsshf said:

I was just trying to give it it's own merit thats all....

i agree, i think its a good film, as good as the first matrix is i prefered equilibrium more, i think its cus the girl in it looks like my ex though.
i suspect if id seen that first though, then seen the matrix i might have prefered the matrix.
both pretty good in my eyes

Matrix revolutions all though having that scene i mentioned earlier.. really did take tha piss. It stopped 'having a message' like the first one (wich i like) may have done. They just thought bollocks.. lets have some cool shit and break several of the plot points from the first (making it up as they went along)...Overall The Matrix trilogy is a sell out and a con job.. I prefer Equilbrium because it did not have its head up its ass (so much :p ).
