I'm looking for environmentally-okay menstating devices..I've heard of the keeper..if that's what it is called?? and just the last post about cloth pads..what are those by the way?, and do they work alright? any else?
here is the website for the keeper, and something like it called the diva cup. http://www.keeper.com/
Cloth pads.... I'm not sure where you'd grab some but they would require washing. I'm sure you can find some resources on the net (google loves you)... unbleached cotton I would rather imagine. Might require more frequent changing than plastic, scented, yicky pads.
i really like cloth pads. i've tried the keeper, but woo yikes its like a little plunger. i've found it really disturbing to remove! owch!
Cloth pads all the way! I bleed a lot, but they work really well, maybe even better than disposable ones, because they have secure snaps. They're super comfortable too! I got all of mine from a lady that makes them to sale on Ebay. It was much cheaper than the ones on the internet and in the stores. The lady's username is spyderink and she usually has 3 for about $10. They have waterproof PUL backing, so you don't have to worry about extra inserts and such. If you type in "cloth pads" a lot of hers will come up. She has great fabrics too, and also offers organic cotton. Here's a link to one of her items, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11837&item=5544246638&rd=1 Good luck!
ahem . .. uh . . . ok im well aware that im a guy. friends of mine in the past have gone to the art store, and have gotten all natural sea sponges that are used for art supplies. they then trim them down with scissors to the proper shape (what ever that is) and use those. they can then be washed and sanatized (i would imagine boiling them) this is about the only eco-friendly method ive heard of.
the keeper the diva cloth pads (which last for years) the man is right, sea sponges...i use them boil them before intial use. i prefer to have 3-4. and boil again after each cycle.
for one or two days out of the month I give my self complete permission to be enviormentally unfriendly. i don't go to fast food places that still use styrofoam i try to go to independent coffee place instead of starbucks but I like to be very very clean during that time as it grosses me out enough already. but I commend those of you who are less selfish than me.
can i point out to that there are other reasons to use these alternatives than being envio friendly. a lot of the tampons and pads out there are bleached with chlorine dioxins. women in the UK protested long and hard to have most of their menstral products changed to unbleached cotton. There are no regulations on the "sanitary product" industry in the US or canada. So it's just another way for big corporations to make money off of women and not be held accountable to us.
Sounds like you were trying to pull it straight out without squeezing it first. While it's in it forms a seal against you and when you take it out you need to squeeze the rim to break the seal. Now it will come out quickly and painlessly.
GladRags.com seems like a really good place to purchase cloth pads, im very interested in getting them myself..
I completley see your point. does any company make hygine products that are non bleached, disposable and not anything you have to insert?
wow i had never heard of any of those things... now i'm seriously considering buying a keeper or diva cup... thanks ladies
I was with a woman for five years that used the keeper , and she said that once she got the hang of using it, she liked it a lot. It sure beats buying tampons and pads all the time, and is good for the environment.
sigh I hate tampons it feels like there's a rock loged int here and they feel so dry going in and they pinch. I get made fun of hard core when I try and borrow a pad but I just never could get the hang of tampons.
I am sorry as a man you have no right to criticize a womans choice in feminine hygine products as you do not have the groosest thing in the world happen to you every month or so.
