does anyone know of any colleges that have a strong environmental program? i'm interested in going to one, but i have no clue where to start
Prescott College in Arizona. I got accepted, but never went. I could kick myself. You should totally check it out.
St. Xavier's University in Chicago is "going green". Check out the link below... http://www.egreenideas.com/news.php?view=385 I live a few blocks away from the school, and I can tell that they are definitely planting a lot more on campus and have a huge increase in trees and landscaping.
definitely look into prescott college. it majorly rocks. i also got accepted, but can't go because of money issues. maybe in a couple years i'll reapply. visit it at: www.prescott.edu. prescott college is part of a consoritorium called the eco-league, a group of environmentally-minded colleges. there are, i think, 5 other really neat colleges in it as well. i believe the website is: www.ecoleague.org. another good school is warren wilson. i so wish i could go there. it looks BEAUTIFUL. just watch the video on the website and see for yourself. they also have a eco-dorm that was just built and that looks really cool. www.warren-wilson.edu. good luck! hope you end up at a kickass college that you enjoy!
it also depends what you are looking for........... are you looking for a school with a strong environmental ethics program? or more so at a school with a strong natural resource program (all the science)? the smaller liberal arts schools have great, strong environmental ethics programs but really don't have as strong programs when it comes to natural resource programs. it comes down to what your thinking about studying...........
thank you all for the advice i have heard of Prescott, but my parents don't want me to go there because i live all the way in NJ. also, im really talented at art, and theyd prefer i go to art school. i can't make up my mind which way i should go
Going away to college would probably the biggest and best thing you'll do in your life.... You should talk to your parents about it. Even if it IS to art school...going away to college is important. I wish I would have done it.
a couple of weeks ago Unity college in Maine sent me something in the mail, and its an environmental college. Majors in Forestry, biology, ecology, wildlife conservation, conservation law enforcement and many more. Im not sure what the website is, but im sure if u google it, you will find something. It looks beautiful, but its pricey and i guess you need high scores on ur ACT and SAT and in math and science which i dont have the money or the grades. haha but u should def. check it out if ur interested. PEACE~
I just graduated from csusm and we got the green award for being the most enviormentally friendly college in the nation Beautiful campus too and san diego is pretty and has great weather. We have an on campus wetlands reserve too and native plant trails...it's a pretty sweet campus...I am going to miss it ):
most good liberal arts schools will have progams in environmental sciences, climate studies, ecology, etc. oberlin would probably have an amazing program for someone looking to be an environmentalist, and it's a very very good school. i would also look at hampshire, evergreen state, and reed. they are all great schools, with a liberal atmosphere that would be consistent with environmenalism.
im doing a course called conservation and land management at challenger tafe in perth australia it kicks ass
I hear good things about Naropa's Environmental Studies Program. They have a campus in Boulder, COlorado and one in Berkely, California. Also, I think they have some abroad, and foreign study programs. Check their site at www.naropa.edu
i go to MTSU (middle tenessee state university). they have a not so well known environmental science program, and a better known S.E.A. (students for environmental action) group that does a LOT of work to get the word out about environmental destruction and helped to start mtsu on using solar energy (there is like a $6 fee added on to every students tuition to pay for the solar panels).
Hey, I read you parents saying they dont want you in school so far away. a couple points I would like to make; 1) Plane tickets are cheap. Cheaper than driving these days 2) College is about YOUR life. You willl be taking those classes, dealing with getting a job afterwords, and (unless you are foretunate) paying off the student loans. While you should listen to you parents desires and way them in, where you go to school has to be your choice. College is a huge commitment in terms of time and money and effort, not one you can complete simply on the grounds of someone else being happy. I have seen enough people who spend their own life to make their parents happy... if you can find a school that you like that is close by, great, if not than you need to go to the school that you are willing to commit to. 3) The Evergreen State College has both art and Environmental Sci Programs, and it is (relitively) inexpensive as college goes as a state school, and it is only 50 miles from an airport (Seattle), which has non-stop flights to newark.
