Entrapment?

I'm always seeing on 'Cops' when their doing stings, the suspects always ask if their cops or not..

What I dont get is.. they say no.. wouldn't that be entrapment? They have to tell you if they are or not don't they?

At least thats what I thought anyway..

 

I'm not completely sure on this either... I am guessing that it depends on the legal documentation behind the stings. I'll ask a cop in the family that I know. In the mean time, anyone else know?

 

cops absolutely don't have to tell you they are cops.

every word out of their mouths can legally be a lie, unless your arrested then they have to read you your rights.

a person is 'entrapped' when he is persuaded by the cops to commit a crime that he had no previous intent to commit.

 

yep they my buddy even tells me how hes made up laws to trick people to arrest them.

of course an LEO is allowed to lie criminals. it's pretty much what undercovers do for a living.

If a cop wants to search your car, he will. If he wants to take you to jail or pull you over, he will.

 

cops can do whatever they want to you these days.... lest you want to be tazed or beaten or shot or killed...

 

in my opinion if you have to ask someone if they are a cop then why the hell would you make a drug deal with them, seriously... but then again i'm the type that likes to know what i'm getting and from who, & if i dont trust them, fuck them, i'll go through someone better

 

From my grade 11 (Canadian) law class I took around 5 years ago, you are not 100% right (and since it's so long ago, the following might also not be as accurate)

That is, a cop cannot lie to you about legal advice. He cannot say "that is legal" and then you do it and he arrests you.

 

A cop could say he isn't a cop, he could say he was a drug lord or something if he wanted to. What they can't do is persuade you to break the law or force you to or anything. They are also allowed to smoke or shoot up or whatever they need to to gain their victim's trust while undercover.

 

Exactly. all a cop has to tell you is what you're being charged with as he's cuffing you, and lotsa luck once you get to that point.
