Well.....this is embarrassing, but I don't know what to do about it or if it might be normal. Anyway, after my period or near the end when it's very light I have a smell, and it's not a good smell. I'll take baths and showers and change pantyliners like crazy, but it's just there. Does anyone else experience this? Or does anyone know why this happens and what to do about it? Thanks!
No worries, all is well. Most girls have that problem, heh. When period blood hits oxygen it has this distinctive smell.. ew, huh? Well, I suggest tampons because they keep the blood inside rather than outside the body.
i suggest tampons as well...that should halt the smell some. and just give it about three days afterward to stop the smell. just because you arent bleeding anymore doesnt mean your body isnt still shedding the tissue built up in your uterus.
Personally, I DON'T suggest tampons. I suggest just dealing with it like every other female in the world. Shoving wads of cotton up your vagina isn't going to help with anything. The smell is just a smell. No one notices it besides you and dogs... dogs always seem to know when a girl is bleeding. Tampons aren't really all that great for you. They are full of chemicals.
it annoys the hell out of me when my dog sticks his nose in my crotch...when im on the rag. *edit* that sounds bad...i don't like it when im not on my period too! i swear!
some women have problems with bacterial vaginosis or yeast infections during their menstrual cycle. This is made worse if you use hygeine products containing fragrance or bleached paper products, or if you douche or wash your parts with soap. Menstrual blood smells... like blood. Not a bad smell, just different from your normal mucous. If there's clots or old brown blood, it will smell different, but it shouldn't stink. If I were you, I'd start using cloth pads which are breathable and don't contain harmful chemicals and see if that doesn't make a big difference.
This is definitely NOT the time to wear tampons, unless you want to increase your risk of TSS. If you are not bleeding heavily enough to saturate a tampon within 4-6 hours, DO NOT wear one!!! I think everyone has that smell. Have you ever smelled just straight up brownish, old blood? It's not something I would ever want to stick my nose in! So, yeah, your vagina is not going to smell pretty when you've got the last little bits of oldish blood flowing out. Big deal -- do you regularly have random strangers sniffing your crotch? I don't know of anything to be done about this except to douche. The problem then is that douching throws off the natural balance of your vagina, which then leads to increased risk of various infections. Not good. A slight odor sounds much less unpleasant to deal with (not to mention the fact that most infections bring an unpleasant odor as well as the itching and whatnot).
i noticed it too. i just wait it out. is anyone really going to say "hey man i can smell your vag accross the room!" if they do THEY have a problem, not you. some women have the smell, some don't. the solution? vagina transplant.
Have you thought about (or even heard of) Diva Cups ?? Hell, I'd recommend them to ANY woman, smelly or not. For around $40, you can save yourself years of ever buying tampons or pads (I can't tell you when I was last down the 'feminine' aisle, I don't even remember) and they're MUCH better. Medical-grade silicone (which can be boiled) cups that fold over to go in, expand on their own, and just have to be emptied and rinsed/wiped out every 6-8 hours... no funky chemicals, no reports of TSS from them or anything, no smell (well, you'll probably smell it when you empty/rinse it, but that's it, and then it's all gone down the drain) and they're MUCH comfier than pads or tampons, because they're flexible enough to move with you. No more worries about buying pads/tampons, not being able to do certain things around that time... hell, I forget I'm bleeding unless it's time to empty and rinse the thing. And they're more environmentally friendly? Haha, it's true. It'll be your new best friend, if you choose such an option. Most places don't sell them... I recommend health stores (that's where I got mine) or going to their website and using their "store locator".
