Really!? Comparing Miley Cyrus to Frank Zappa! Are you fucking kidding me! That is the biggest stretch I've heard since David Fricke of Rolling Stone compared Kurt Cobain to John Lennon!

Honestly I don't see anything in that article that is offensive. He is comparing the two of them in the sense that they both made unexpected moves when picking record recording partners. It's not like he's saying that Miley and Frank Zappa are equally talented, you know?

Maybe Zappa was channeling Miley when he wrote "Crew Slut" for the Joe's Garage album. It's her!

Actually, he was comparing Mileys decision to record nude with the Flaming lips to some of the outrageous and spontaneous stage antics Zappa did during his shows, back in the day. Poor comparison, but hey, Eltons a twat. Comparing Frank to Miley in any manner is a freaking travesty anyway.
They are at complete opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to the way they approach contemporary music. Franks music is art, Mileys music is commodity.

Edit; I should add that as for picking unexpected recording partners, I guess you could say frank did that when he hired Flo & Eddy ( Howard kaylan and Mark Volman, formerly of the band "the turtles) and to a certain degree he hire them because they could "put on the mustache" as Frank put it. Be spontaneously comedic on stage

But mostly he hired them for their ability to read, comprehend and accurately perform very difficult music.

When Miley Cyrus records a song about anal sex in 19/16 time then I'll appreciate the comparison:

:D Probably would use as Exhibit A to show how important Bernie Taupin was to Elton John's success.

Let's see according to Mr. Wiki; Zappa is listed as number 22 on the list of all time greatest rock guitarists, and 71 on the list of 100 greatest artist of all times by The Rolling Stone. He made the second double album in rock history, produced almost all of his 60 albums, "composed rock, jazz, orchestral and musique concrète works. He also directed feature-length films and music videos, and designed album covers.."
    He was an independent artist.

He fought censorship, criticized society, politics, and religion.
The musical technique called xenochrony is attributed to him. Along with a partner he developed two record labels and prodeuced albums for Captain Beefheart, Alice Cooper, The Persuasions, Wild Man Fischer, the GTOs, and Lenny Bruce's last live performance.

His 200 Motels movie was the first movie ever photographed on video film and then transferred to 35mm to allow for special effects. It included the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Ringo Starr, Theodore Bikel, and Keith Moon.

He made numerous television appearances as an actor and for voice overs.

    ...and on and on.....

I once saw Elton John perform for 3 hours without a break while wearing a majestic purple robe. Nothing can ever take that away from me and I will never think he is a twat.

But I really do hate how Miley and the flaming lips are working so closely together. wtf doesn't even make sense to me. I know the flaming lips have always put a big emphasis on their performance and stage show and maybe something about Miley speaks to them in that regard, I dunno.. I really don't get it.
