Ive been thinking. Why is it that people always accept a certain concept of afterlife quicker than accepting anything else related to religion and philosophy. A person will spend a lifetime overcoming their material desires, but will accept the fact that they will go to heaven when they die. I think, that the afterlife is so widely accepted is because the ego sees the afterlife, be it heaven, or reincarnation, as a chance to continue existing. This life may suck, says your ego, but the next will be better. What do you think?
As long as you identify with the part and not the actor behind it, you will see the world through the role that you play here. You woke up with this mask on and you think it's you. It ain't. The ego is a part of that earthly identity. When you die in this world, the ego dies with your earthly remains, yet the awareness that powered that body lives on, unaffected by anything that happened in life. It IS the eternal life. And the roles it assumes here are short lived and many. You are one of the many, therefore enjoy the life within you while you have it. x
true words xexon. however, it's hard for some of us that relate to our ego, even remotely, to imagine it as non-existent, and dead for ever. sort of sad you know? because, even if it is not the real me, I still see it as a part of me.
It is when there is identification with the thoughts of 'Me, Myself' that the ego is reinforced. "Even if it is not the real me, I still see it as a part of me" When it is said "relate to our ego", ownership arises, identification with something that can own an ego. This, again, is ego.
