Can chronic usage of DMT effect your brain in the long run? Also, does your body only produce DMT before death? And if it does produce it at other times, could it have the same effect as steroids in the sense that your body will shutdown the "gland" that produces the chemical because it sees that it's already there?

Are you being sarcastic? No one can possibly know the answers to these questions.

what the fuck i wrote the longest reply to this thread ever... where did it go?

    damnit.

Can chronic usage of DMT effect your brain in the long run?

Everything effects your brain. DMT like any other intense experience can and will effect your brain. As far as disorders etc. you have flashbacks and HPPD. DMT is probably more unlikely to spark schizophrenia than other drugs. There are some anecdotal reports that DMT can "cure" schizophrenia (a discussion for another thread... infact, I think I'll make it right now).

Also, does your body only produce DMT before death?

That makes no sense. Why would your body make something only right before death? Certainly not on purpose. No one knows for sure, but I'd put my money on no.

And if it does produce it at other times, could it have the same effect as steroids in the sense that your body will shutdown the "gland" that produces the chemical because it sees that it's already there?

I doubt it because then you would get anti-dmt effects on the comedown. DMT sort of trails off, and you can still feel "something" the next day. That something probably isn't the drug... more like when you feel awesome the next day after some great sex.

I would say DMT use can definitley effect your brain in the long run because of the fact it has been documented to cause HPPD in some individuals but it is not known because no studies have really been done on its physical effects on the brain.

There have been studies done in Brazil of people that have often used DMT containing plants for their whole life, as part of their religion. There were not any negative effects found from using it, from the basis of the study it was re-legalized for religious use. DMT is found, in the body, all the time and is produced during normal body metabolism, in small amounts, in humans and other mammals.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think the only reason why people say that is because Terrance McKenna said he had a full blown DMT trip during a lucid dream (where he knew he was dreaming, and found a DMT and a pipe and toked in his dream). Not very good evidence... I personally have gotten very high on many substances in sleep, and I don't know how the conscious mind would be able to trigger more DMT in sleep if you toked in a dream. I'm sure he just induced a flashback... not forced his body to create more DMT. Dreams are cool like that.

I used to be VERY into lucid dreaming and have read alot of scientific lit about dreaming and drugs. There is no proof that DMT is ever released into the brain at any point during life, only the fact that it exists in the pineal gland. there are alot of chemicals in your body that never make it to receptors to which they are capable of binding. you guys need to stop telling yourself that drugs are perfectly natural and realize that taking drugs introduces foreign chemicals into your brain that are ligands for receptors that are not normally meant for binding all these different psychedelics.

freediver: taking something like dmt into the body may be considered a highly unnatural act, but what do we as modern humans do that isn't unnatural? our entire way of life and everything we see as normal and right are really just creations of man. in such a state, some improvisation is needed to reconnect with our natural roots. the means are unnatural, but the end is not. our frame of reference is so ill-founded that no one can say what act is and isn't good or bad for us. modern culture is a dying one; we can either change voluntarily or change will be heaved upon us.

the dormant chemicals in the body that don't ever make it to receptors are a testament to what is possible if the mind is attuned properly. I believe that some of those chemicals were accessed by some cultures, like with the native american vision quests. Apparently being thrust into a raw natural situation without any help from one's known culture can facilitate a natural state of psychedelia. But we're really retarded as a society about that kind of thing, so some of us see dmt or similar chems as a shortcut of sorts. We're all made up of the same stuff in the end anyway, what does it matter if the active chemicals are introduced artificially?

Actually it was first hypothesized in 1988 in a journal called Medical Hypothesis. Also, where did you heard about this Mckenna incident? I've watched every one of his talks recorded on video and he's never mentioned this dream in them. Maybe you're thinking of something or someone else?

Anyways here's a link I found if you want to read more about the function of DMT in the human body. (http://www.maps.org/news-letters/v04n2/04230cal.html)

hey every i think every1 has gotten a little of topic and by the soudns of wat u people say no offence but you cant realy comment on wat you hear,
i supose it would in the long run but seeing that dimethyltriptamine is produced in the pineal gland in your brain some would consider it to be a natural drug. Also your pineal gland pumps the stuff through your brain when u sleep alowing people to dream/lucid dream and achieve astral projection... I no some people and myself who have smoked the stuff many times it would sometiems give us a head ache a few hours after but that was on rare occasion.. the fact is this.. because it is a natural occoring chemical in your brain, flushing it into your system would only cause your pineal gland to react and prouce more when it does activate with out smokeing dmt. and that many dmt users havnt reported any harmfull effects after and in long term uses.. theirs no point guessing the effects if youv done the stuff you no. you can then use your commen sence to dysek the changes and you can see wat is realy going on in your brain. many open mindd people would probly agree.
