Has anyone else noticed this? The history channel, the discovery channel, national geographic. All of them have turned retarded. Ive seen it happening for years. Half the time they don't show anything but reality tv type bs. And when they do show a program even slightly educational or about a historical or scientific subject its mostly sensationalized conjecture made to sound like fact.

    whatcha all think?

The History Channel going to shit helped seal the deal with me shutting off cable TV entirely early in May. Visited family a week ago- they have a nice digital cable set up with all the once good channels- very little actual history on the history channel but fluff with marginal educational value... clearly a step down when I reduced cable services to bare basic minimum channels over a year ago. Cable rates have been rising incrementally every month or two since over the air television was eliminated. I was told the steady rise was due to sports programming on the network channels- the same ones that used to be free over the air.

It's good to know I ain't missing out on much. It's nice to know that the professional sports leagues figured out how to milk more from people trying to make ends meet... turn the rest of the entertainment we as a whole have become hopelessly addicted to into a commodity to be sold by doing away with its free transmission and allowing obscenely lucrative professional sports world to attach to basic TV subscription packages a series of increases that at the time of my cancellation had worked an extra $25 per month to what I was paying for mine... and when I called to inquire about all the cumulative increases I was told it was sports programming... the networks carry a good number of NFL, NBA, and MLB broadcasts... which to me means I'm paying $25 more each month to be able to click past the ballgame to see if there's anything on... and when more times than not there's actually nothing on, then why the fuck am I paying for it particularly since garbage is infiltrating formerly worthwhile channels like History and Discovery. My cable provider got the business version of, "go fuck yourself" in late Apeil.

People SERIOUSLY need to start killing their TVs.

I agree. Nowadays the history channel is nothing but faux reality television that is catered to a less intelligent viewing audience. Swamp people, mudcats, ax men. all these shows are complete crap that show a crowd of inbred idiots yelling and cussing at each other for 30 mins in a orgasm of bad television. The last straw was taking away ancient aliens. that show may have been a little wacky, but it proposed very important questions in an intelligent manner.

I have rabbit ears only,so PBS and OPB are what I get and they still are worth watching to me. Ken Burns has done some great shows. I watched a show about the Congo and the refugees from that strife-torn country last night and it was well worth watching. The Nature shows are always good to excellant. On Nightly news, they take the time to get into subjects more thoroughly than the sound-bite main stream media. Ect-ect-ect.

Gee, it's like their trying to dumb us down or something . I got rid of cable years ago when the unreality craze got insane .When Discovery channel went to shit. 300 chanels and still nothing on . I could no longer justify the price . Never looked back and don't miss it at all . Other than hard drugs and booze, nothing has had a more destructive effect on our society than main stream media . How anyone can watch this crap and think there is not an agenda playing out is beyond me . And the best way to change it , is not support it . An uphill battle for sure , at least I know i'm not feeding the problem anymore .

It really has. I hate tuning in to watching sons of guns and pawn stars and how to build motorcycles and other stupid shit like that. I miss the documentaries on the earth, the universe, animals, the oceans, dinosaurs, ancient wars, ancient civilizations, natural disasters.. :(

When I had cox cable a few years ago , I liked ch s like the history ch. sci-fi , the travel ch. ect. That was maby 5 years ago , I have not scene them since . I like p.b.s. , programs like nova have been on from the 70s. There are 2 ch..s that only broadcast the old stuff , m.e. and r.t.v. most of the old stuff is better than the crap they offer now . Most of the rest of tv. has gone to hell . Execpt Jerry Springer , that is just too stupid ,and funny . desert rat

I believe these channels are following the BBC strategy of the past -- sandwich true educational content between more entertainment-oriented programing. This increases audiences with the assumption many will stick around to watch programs with more valuable content.
