I have just read in a magazine that the Government is considering introducing a new plan to decrease carbon dioxide emissions. The plan is that we all have quotas, for the amount of "carbons units", tracked through a card system (just for carbon not I.D.), so everytime you use electricity, fuel etc, it is put on your card, for those who do not drive and use much their quota can be sold to others, so people can spend more, but have to buy off somebody else. I doubt it will be brought in soon, but I personally think it is quite a good idea. peacex
In the Adbusters Special year end issue- The big ideas of 2006. I couldn't believe it when I read it, but there are some MP such as Colin Challen who support it, and thinks it will definately have to happen at some time
that is a great plan something needs to be done fur sure to save our enviornment elliott, i think you look like a young "jackson browne' in that picture. nice picture. what kind a music do you play? hippiewise (angel)
um hate to bring a negative note into this but, to me, this doesn't sound like a good idea at all. I believe they did something like this in the kyoto agreement. each country was given an amount of carbon emisions they were allowed to release into the atmosphere. What happened was the richer countries bought the emision allowence off the poorer countries who wouldn't have used them anyway. so they ended up releasing the same amount as they did before. What i think is a great idea is what they do in Austria. each village or hamlet has their own wind turbine which provides each house with clean renewable power. It's sad but people arn't going to give up their cars or the amount of electricity they use currently. Te only way is a switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources.
i agree there are better steps to take but i think this is a start, the thing is we wouldn't use more then others, because we put on a limit we can use, and people who use more buy off those who use less, therefore the national usage is as it would have been if every person had used their whole limit, its a start... peacex
turning pollution into capitol? thats fucking crazy! it means poor people will not be able to use their fucking lights, and rich people can continue to guzzle natural resources!
where did it say it will do that, it means everyone is given a yearly supply by the gov't and any you do not use, can be sold to others, not that you have to pay for it to start with, so you can heat and light your health, it just means we may have to cut down a bit, which is pretty enivitable. peacex
no, what happens is that you sell off your energy for capital. this means that working class famillies will end up with less energy than middle class famillies as they may well need to sell it. it jsut glorifies the class devide.
only if they sell it, they don't have to sell it, they can use the energy, y'know what this is our planet at risk here, i don't want to get into yet enother political debate about which system is right, the point is we need to cut co2 and as present this is a step, i do not give a damn if it glorifies the class divides if the future generations have a healthy planet to live on, there is a negative to everything isn't there, be happy look at the bright side of our planet peacex
No, you dotn understand, a qyuick fix is not the answer, and this is most definately nto the answer. People wont have to sell it per se, but tis what will happen, and the rich will exploit that. C02 does have to be cut, but by regulating the big corporations, bto punishing the poor!
That's what i cant stand about some of you so called libreals. You happily want to save the planet, but you dont care if most people dont have any energy. That's disgusting, all that will happen is that the rich will by the energy. All you're doing is increasing the class divide by depriving the working people energy. This wont save the enironment.
we need to do something fast, co2 is made by us normal humans too not just corporations, others things can be done as well, but i think this bill should go through, will it punish the poor, they get money they need for food etc, and use only the electricity they need and co2 they produce, and the rich have to limit their lifestyles and have to pay extra to do so, and living under the co2 quota
if it means there is a world for future generations then i gladly would scrifice the luxuries we have in this country. we have to get our priorities right, i cna argue about class differences and ideologies with you , but what use if we won't have much life left to put that ideology into place, thats what i can't stand about you marxist, you have on issue and dismiss other issues
what fucking C02 quota? they wont have one, b/c they will have bought the poors, and thus screwing the poor over!
to screw the poor over the poor would have to sell, they do not have to, and i think the poor need heating too, you are grasping at straws now, all you keep saying is that is will screw the poor, look at the eco problem we have first before you put ideology into it
having to sell. interesting view you got there, as when you dont have to sell per se, it doesnt mean you dont have to sell in reality. I acknowledge that emmisions of greenhouse gasses is a problem, but no, i will not stop 'putting ideology into it' as the ideology is a very relevent thing.
see to me, i will put the environment before ideology because without a planet there is no community to put into an ideology. the thing is your ideology has prevented you from reading this bill because you automatically put everything into your thinking even if it is a good idea because it isn't your perfect marxist thought... because as we all know, marxism helps the environment
