Today, I took my first major step (pun intended) into going barefoot whenever possible. I went to school in shorts, a t shirt, and my socks. I decided, it was going to be a high of 81ยบ, so why wear shoes and make my feet sweat profusely? I went the whole day in my socks without too much trouble, even in the halls. I was asked about my lack of shoes a few times, but they asked in a way that suggested curiosity rather than a tone of reprimand. I'm going to keep going in my socks (on days when the weather is in my favor) for a while, then try to take it up to barefoot. It's partly for me to ease into it, but mainly for everyone that knows me has only seen me wearing slacks, a dress shirt, and dress shoes. They're going to need to get used to it. Don't want to spring it on them too abruptly.

This strategy sounds like it's going to ruin a perfectly good pair of socks. Why not use flip flops/sandals? They can take the wear and tear better, most of your foot will remain exposed, they come off easily, and you'll look less like a retard, because sandals are still technically speaking considered shoes, while not too many people will walk around in public just in their socks, actually going fully barefoot will look less suspicious. Especially consider the ease of removal: You can just pop them off casually while doing something else, and none will probably be any more bothered, because you already had most of your foot visible and exposed anyway.

no, flip flops look dumb on me. But sandals without socks, that would be easier to remove inconspicuously than my socks. Maybe I'll try that.

I got a pair of these for the occasions when I can't be in bare feet. Like you, I don't really like wearing flip flops. I found these sandals are usually good enough, even in semi-formal situations, to keep the shoe police at bay. They're comfy, keep my feet cool, and are easy to slip off and on as needed.
