Two large earthquakes have struck New Zealand this morning - one off the east coast of the North Island and another near Hanmer Springs in the South Island. A 5.1 earthquake struck Hanmer Springs just after 11.30 this morning. GeoNet reported it had a depth of 6km and was described as 'severe'. Did you feel this morning's earthquakes? Email us here. The Hanmer quake was preceded by a large earthquake off the east coast of the North Island just a minute before. The "severe" magnitude-6.6 jolt hit at 11.33am at a depth of 92km, 170km east of Te Araroa, according to GeoNet. Social media lit up after the event.
