How are you guys? Anybody near these earthquakes?

Two large earthquakes have struck New Zealand this morning - one off the east coast of the North Island and another near Hanmer Springs in the South Island.

A 5.1 earthquake struck Hanmer Springs just after 11.30 this morning.

GeoNet reported it had a depth of 6km and was described as 'severe'.

The Hanmer quake was preceded by a large earthquake off the east coast of the North Island just a minute before.

The "severe" magnitude-6.6 jolt hit at 11.33am at a depth of 92km, 170km east of Te Araroa, according to GeoNet. Social media lit up after the event.

Hawkes Bay Today reporter Sam Hurley said on Twitter that he felt the "rather large" quake in Napier.

We get used to them, lol. Worst ones were the big ones last year. It's a feeling that is difficult to get used to!
