Earthquake in IL

This NEVER happens! It happened around 4am. I woke up with my bed shaking for like 5 mins, even when the quake was only seconds long. Apparently in rockford, they got cracked houses.

That is pretty weird...why did that happen? Scary...

 

theres a fault near st louis, they collated near dekalb and apparently it weent to wisconsin too. it was like 3.4

 

It measured 3.8 and because of the composition of the ground (more solid rock) the tremor was "conducted" over quite a wide area.

Didn't feel it here but heard about it on the radio on my way home after work.

 

pffffftt....we gets cracks in our houses here just from the mine blasting

rockbursts can really shake the place too but those suck because it usually involves people dieing.


4.1 is the largest actual non-manmade quake I experienced back in 2006.

(CNN) -- An early morning earthquake rattled northern Illinois on Wednesday, shaking an area about 50 miles west-northwest of downtown Chicago, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake was originally reported as having a magnitude of 4.3, but the USGS later downgraded it to magnitude 3.8. It hit just before 4 a.m. CT (5 a.m. ET), with an epicenter about 3 miles underground. The USGS pinpointed the quake between the towns of Virgil and Sycamore, Illinois.

Millions of people felt the temblor, with reports coming in to the USGS from Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa and Wisconsin, as well as Illinois. Members of the public sent more than 10,000 reports of the earthquake to the USGS within the first few hours after it struck.

Yes I do understand and I think it’s highly commendable that the haitian government is currently mobilizing every resource it has on behalf of the earthquake victims of Northern Illinois

Their search and rescue teams are experts at detecting even the slightest movement within a collapsed building, coupled with sniffer dogs, and the latest acoustics and infrared sensors they are considered the best in the world.

Their presence at the earthquake disaster relief staging area now being set up outside of chicago is truly an inspiration to all

Its also rumored that Wyclef Jean is currently in negotiations to arrange a benefit concert for the Illinois earthquake victims along with help from haitian rap artists Jimmy O, Mystik 703, and Young Rich
