i like brandy but i havent trid this yet, i found it in my house today, and the onlt reviews ive read are by upperclass elitist ppl have any of you "normals" tried it, is it any good?
if it gets you drunk, id drink it. iv only drank E/J once and dont really remeber much. i stick to whiskey mostly
there is no other brandy besides E&J... me and my buddies use to drink that shit by the 1.75L... i dont drink it anymore though since i quit drinking soda.. since i would drink E&J 7's or E&J coke... Brandy always made me pretty beligerant and willing to fight though... so thats another good reason i dont drink it
its one of the cheapest brandies out there. you'll get what you pay for. i wouldnt advise it, but then i can't say i've had it... might be ok if you're mixing it in something, but dont expect a fine spirit you can sip by itself. pricewise it would probably be the mr boston of the brandy world...
yeah, i know you aren't asking a price and aren't buying it. i read your post, but i'm just telling you that while i haven't tasted it myself, its SURE to be a far cry from a 50-100 dollar bottle of cognac or armagnac. its cheap brandy. cheap, cheap, cheap brandy. its not likely to be something you'll want to drink by itself. whether you like it or not will be based on your preferances...but if you DO drink it, you'll almost certainly want it mixed with something. its not the kind of spirit you'd want to bust out the snifter for. know what i mean?
its not as bad as you think.. obviously.. since you havent had it... its no 5 star mr bostons.. yuck... most bars around here E&J is a "call" liquor.. meaning a step up from rail booze... of course its no 50-100$ for cognac.. but thats the same that goes for any booze.. Absolute is better than some $7 bottle of vodka.. but it dont compare to a $40 bottle of Belvedere
well, with many of the spirits out there, quality is often independent of price. for example, both seagrams and gordons make vodka which runs around 10 bucks for a fifth in my area. compared to a $40+ fifth of grey goose....even if i had the money and then some to spend on grey goose, i'll choose either gordons or seagrams over grey goose. why? i find them both to be better and smoother than grey goose. its really often a matter of image, prestige, and price more than anything, and in no case is this more true than with vodka. with scotch, i can get a bottle of aberlour 10 year for 30 or 35 bucks, same with isle of jura, both of which are FAR, FAR better than glenlivet 12 year for a higher price. all sorts of examples exist, in every category of liquor there is. often its not the best spirit that has the highest price, its the most prestigous, or the liquor with the best image, which gets the higher pricetag. like i said, i haven't had e&j. i've never tasted it. but as far as price goes, fine brandies and fine scotch are in roughly the same range, and e&j is about as cheap as it gets when it comes to brandy. as i have never had it, i CERTAINLY can't say its undrinkable. but while prices aren't the biggest determining factor, they do sometimes reflect quality, and this is often quite true in both scotch and brandy. i would not anticipate it to be good by any means. but i also wouldn't doubt that its drinkable if you have something to mix it with and simply wish to get drunk.
ugh, i hate E&J. Its cheap and taste like shit. Go ahead and drink up if you didnt pay for it though!
