A Dutch city will become the first in the world to ban meat adverts from public spaces in an effort to reduce consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Haarlem, which lies to the west of Amsterdam and has a population of about 160,000, will enact the prohibition from 2024 after meat was added to a list of products deemed to contribute to the climate crisis.

Do the greenhouse gasses come from the animals or the people who eat the animals?

Meat accounts for nearly 60% of all greenhouse gases from food production, study finds. The global production of food is responsible for a third of all planet-heating gases emitted by human activity, with the use of animals for meat causing twice the pollution of producing plant-based foods, a major new study has found .

Advertising meat products has become a corrupt marketing strategy that preys upon human carnivorous urges. Meat is an addiction. Much like sugar and fast-food. Meat product advertisement has a bad influence on a world where society strives to make healthier future generations. Man made meat exists. We don't really need to wipe out all of the rest of the animals that the woodcutter missed. All of this and there is children who don't get the chance to even eat. The world was waiting for someone to have the courage to go first and it turns out to be an entire city. Decent modern city.

This is not the end of meat. This is the start of practically ending meat once and for all. I know how important meat is (Protein) but we are passed it and the future wont even know what it's like to have to hunt big game to survive.

It could bring back mass cannibalism on the flip side.

  10. I’ll keep eating meat whether it’s advertised or not. I prefer wild game to mass production meat anyway, but that would run out fast if food production is reduced.

I'm a vegetarian most of the time and I think this is a crazy move.

The main cause of greenhouse gas or global warming is man himself being greedy for wealth and not a cow in a field munching grass .

If they want to encourage people to eat more vegetarian diets then the powers that be need to promote the health aspects and address the obesity problem .

Oh I forgot line 2 comes into play , McDonalds, Burger King ,KFC ,Pizza Hut .......................................................................................................etc

All big corporates and create wealth and greed .

Are we? Are we really? Did our biology and the laws of nature suddenly change, and everybody failed to tell me? You'd be wise to consult some biology books, before unilaterally declaring that we suddenly don't need some of the nutrients that have sustained us for thousands of years, and been eaten precisely, because it keeps you alive. There are more ways than one to create a hunger crisis.

We do need a debate on this.

    Are we hunters, or gatherers?

Which will not provide you with any vitamin B12. A necessary nutrient for our very survival. And supplements are too much of a hassle, when you can just get it from natural sources. Along with all the iron and zinc you'll be needing as well.

But I'm not gonna start another long winded debate about this, as it would be my 3rd time already, and contrary to what some may or may not believe, I actually don't take pleasure in ruining somebody's day with those pesky little facts that just won't go away.
