Ok, I have had dreads for about 6 years now, and they are kind of long now. I went swimming in that time, and I also wash them from time to time. But they always take so long to dry. and blowdryers are kind bad, because I dry my hair about 30 mins, and after 5 minutes, they are wet again, since all of the water from the inside go to the outside. So I just let them dry in the air, which takes 2 days in winter, and 1 day, in summer. But they start smelling pretty baaaad.

The thing is, I want to start to go swimming, as exercise, I tried to buy this latex swimming hood, but it barely fits (as I said, my dreads are kinda long, check ma gallery for an idea) to keep them as dry as possible.

So are there any swimmers out there, or people who wash their dreads once a week, who can give me advice?

well its quite time consuming but palm rolling them when wet forces quite a lot of the water out and speeds up drying. my dreads arent that long but it makes a difference. i sometimes do with with a towel between my hands and roll lots of dreads at once. Makes sence? hope it helps.
Yours dreads are looking amazing by the way :)

When I used to swim we would put baby powder in our caps to make them go on easier. You can also put another cap on after your first is fitted on tight. I don't know for regular showering though. It seems like everyone has that problem. Maybe you could put something else in your hair that would make it inhospitable to mold like tea tree oil, etc.

i use the squeeze n shake method....squeeze/twist them like you would a sponge, then shake them around alot (the not so effective, but way fun part), then towel dry for awhile

mine only take a day or so to completely dry, and smells never been a problem, but my dreads are short and young, so who knows

I squeeze em with a towel, and then I whip the water out for a while, then air dry. I whip the water out in the shower though, and ive noticed Ive moved back to the edge of the shower, because as my hair gets longer it hits the front of the shower.
