This week (Thursday) I'm going to meet a nurse practitioner that my therapist recomended, and we are going to discuss possible medications that might help me. I am bi-polar and we are pursueing medication because my mood swings and drastic episodes of depression are putting me in danger. I heard someone say that there might be a drug test before I am prescribed anything. I smoke pot and I will fail that test. Do I have reason to worry?
It is unlikely that they will do a drug test just to give you a prescription. However, they will likely give you a blood test because the medication they give for people with bi-polar disorder has to be closely monitored (especially Lithium). Don’t be alarmed because drug use will not show up on these tests. They just check things like your liver function, Complete Blood Count(CBC) and thyroid etc.
Im bi polar too and smoke everyday, some Medics wont work with you if you smoke weed . I was turned away becuz i smoked weed. Said they cant measure how the meds are helping becuz there is allways another substance in ur brain . They are no intrested n finding something that works along side pot, only something that helps you by itself.... In my own expereince iv had better days smoking more weed then taking the pills they gave me , they allways backfired and set me off to in a manic state. .... i dont like being manic, feel like im coked out but im not high... its weird, but im sure u know.
