I've been through pre-school, kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, high school, and now a year of college and I think I've had enough brainwashing education to last a lifetime! I wanna write what I wanna write, when I wanna write not because some English teacher told me to. I wanna get out while I'm still young and go up to Burlington Vermont and get an apartment and job. Still connected to society but one step closer... College is overrated! anyone else with me?
yay you're absolutely right it's not for everybody you can learn so much more from life, and the internet (while it lasts)
I agree with Stalk. The only problem is you better have something else lined up if you intend on making any sort of income. School is overrated, but that degree you get may help you down the road.
school is meant for pushing you through the way they have the world built so there is nothing wrong with it just a better understanding on how the world is built and how to move through it more easier with the rest of the flock Edit: or should i say how someones dream built the world added by other peoples dreams on how to build the world
you may be wishing you had a degree in a few years, it not even so much what the degree is in, it is the fact that you have one that will impress an employer i would say if you dont want book smarts just be good with your hands, otherwise you will be making $9 an hour for the rest of your life.
All of the points above are valid. I found that the first year of college seems to be crammed with prerequisites and mandatory courses, so that is why there is less passion and it feels like a process. If your college has that system in place, I suggest that you stick it out till at least your third year (when things apparently get "good") so you can be sure that you don't want to continue going there. You can always write what you want on the side and release it on the internet, in a blog or a site like Associated Content or FictionPress.com (if you write original fiction). Nobody can stop you from writing what you want. But if you truly feel in your heart of hearts that you will never be happy if you wait it out for a few years, then good luck. I hope you'll find what you're looking for, and I hope it will bring you happiness.
I dropped out last April from college, moved home to get my head strait now im in oregon trying to find myself. I feel the same way about school, i have had enough. That i dont want to spend thousands of dollars unless im sure about my decision. Who knows in 2 years ill be 24 and might want to go back to school. Right now im just taking it easy.
not wanting to go to college because it'll "brainwash you" is stupid. not wanting to go to college because you haven't made a sure-enough decision on what you want to do, and thus don't want to pay the money, is smart.
Yeah i have only been in college for two months, but at the end of the semester im dropping out. its true, its not for everyone. im taking some time off to really figure out what i want to do with my life
This is kind of ironic because... I dropped out of school to move to Burlington as well... never moved there. Now I live in a great town and have a growing career... all as a high school dropout who never went to college. Some people just don't function in the confines of a classroom. I always felt bored and never learned much. I say, do what makes you happy, if you want to drop out, go for it, there are alternatives to higher education. You can always go back to school later in life if you decide.
Thank you everyone for your advice. I've decided to give college another chance after a lot of consideration. My goal is to be accepted to UVM. That way I get to be in what I consider the City of the Hippie and still work toward academic success. I love Burlington. I've only been there twice but I feel like I left a part of me up there last time I visited and going to school there would be my dream. Anyone else familiar with UVM, Burlington, or just Vermont in general?
Drop out! The hell with an education! We need people like you to do the crappy jobs that educated people don't want to do.
