Me and some mates are going to the Boom festival in Portugal next August, so I figured it could be a good opportunity for a massive road trip through France and Spain, stopping at any city, beach, valley or desert along the way and making a 3 week holiday out of it.

I worked it out on google earth and getting there will be just over 1,000 miles, which isn't quite as bad as it might seem. Obviously there will be a lot of de-touring and staying places, ect...

To be honest it sounds like a pretty perfect idea. The cost of petrol would be less than everyone buying a plane ticket and we would sleep in tents or the car or hostels on odd occasions, and we could buy all the food we need from supermarkets so it would be pretty cost effective aswell. Obviously we would spend the occasional few nights going wild in Madrid or wheverelse we decide to stop.

I have a few queries though if anyone can help out.

    - Is this a good idea

    - Has anyone ever done this before?

    - How easy would it be to take drugs on the journey. Mainly weed/hash, mushrooms/acid/cactus, DMT? Should we take some in the car across the ferry to Calaise and through the France/Spain border or should be try and get some on the journey or should we just completely forget about the idea?

    :cheers2:

Well, we traveled by the car a bit, then by a hitchike throught the Europe for a month. It were countries: Slovakia (start), Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Andorra...we planned also Spain, but we started to be tired so we came back throught the France, Italy (went on the east to the Rome), then back to Slovakia (via Austria and Hungary). Two years later I hitchhiked throught the Balkan, but I guess you´re interesting about western Europe.

Firstly I need to say, it was wonderful trip. I have great memories.
But in the other hand it depands from your personality and personality of your friends. Also traveling with very low budget is possible, but not still easy. Compared to eastern or middle Europe, everything is more expensive, but if you are from England, tho it will be not that terrible for you ;) Second thing are friends: there are a lot of people who could enrapture for this idea, but on the road they lost somewhere their adventurous personality. When i traveled throught the Balkan I spent my time with friend who I knew for a 4 years but on the road I knew his despotic, angry personality. And it could be that nice trip :(
What about pot...I guess it´s not that problem. In Arles (France) alternative looking people smoke weed out in the restaurant´s garden. Throught the Austria, France and Italy border we impart a bit of weed and hash and there were no problems too. Advantage of free borders. Nobody care for your passport, nobody care what you have in your car for personal using. The problem could be only with truckers. We stoped one guy who invited us for a joint few times and it was OK. But friends had one bad experience with police which is very careful in the truck transport case. Police found something in trucker´s car who they stopped and had problems also as a hitchhikers. But If you travel by a car and don´t attract too much attention on yourselves I tho, it will be OK.
