Well, out of circumstances I didn't brush my hair for like 2 weeks, then I thought screw it I'm never brushing again, I was planning on starting but could never find the right time. Left it then decided to twist and rip it into sections. I haven't touched it since other than washing..

Back-combed at a salon with Bee's wax. This method comes highly un-recommended unless you plan on cutting off all the original length!

I wanted to do my naturally but my hair is so fine it just wont not. Before dreads i didn't have to brush my hair for some reason, my sister is the same way. I did twist and rip also. I started out trying to back-comb and it felt wrong? lol & the bees wax was a terrible experience to me bc of my fine hair it just looked like i needed a shower BAD lol

Combo of backcomb, neglect, and wool hat rubbing.

not necessarily. mine were initially backcombed but i havent done anything to them since. 3 years of growth which has been neglected and has formed dreads. all of my 'new growth' and baby dreads are neglect
