how do u get dreads lol im sorry if this is the worst question yall have ever heard or misplaced or sumtin but how do u grow em? do ya hafta have curly hair or sumtin? mines pretty straight with a gay ass flip thing at the bottom and its about armpit lenght and still growing im just wonderin if u hafta do some special shit to it to get it to do it or what and btw nice dreads in ur pic man i think they look kool as hell
for caucasian hair: backcomb: section the hair and comb it backwards towards the scalp. the hair unravels a bit and then tightens into dreads rub/rip: rub a piece of cloth around your hair wildly and randomly, creating knots. rip the knots into sections. the hair unravels some and tightens a few months later into dreads neglect: wash, but don't comb hair. dreads naturally form. ripping into sections is usually optional here, sometimes it naturally separates itself. takes the longest of these methods, but creates really cool dreads, but that's just my personal opinion. my last set was backcombed and neglected, next set will be the neglect method.
an wow i just looked at that first pic that was a loonnnggg time ago seaweedyness: i think that's awesome. how are you going to dread the rest of the hair? I've known of people braiding the hair and letting it knot naturally and as it grows out.
im going to neglect combing my hair as soon as i get a job where i can where a hat/tam. which should be in a few months(2-6) im in no rush.
There's a Knotty Know How Forum in the Personal Forums section that has all the answers to all of your questions... I used the neglect method and I had the beginnings of dreadies after about two months... It's been over two and a half years and they aren't perfect...none using the neglect method are...but I love the imperfections.
I got natural dreads. I didn't have to wax them or anything. I just stopped combing them, let them get nturally matted, and then seperated them into individual dreads.
Ya it is pretty crazy that your hair is almost older than me. You think maybe you got a record or something for longest dreads.
