So I was curious if anyone knew/had experience, lets say you get out of the shower n your hair is still wet and you went outside into reallllly cold weather and your hair froze, would it be likely for em to break if you bent em/broke the ice?
This has happened to me a few times. My dreads turned white and I was like "WTF?" and then I touched one and it felt harder than usual. When I bent them they stayed in place, as if a wire were inside of them. No danger of breaking, hair is extremely strong.
Yeah... actually normal hair will break if frozen, it will snap off. So dreads might, but probably not just because of how big they are. It's like that old story of the guy breaking a stick and saying how easy it is, but if you try to break a whole bundle it's impossible (or just really hard). Supposed to explain teamwork or something.... And up in Fairbanks, AK women shouldn't wear mascara cause they're eyelashes will freeze and snap off... so I'm pretty sure hair will freeze up and snap.
i have went outside in the winter with wet hair for yrs, never had a hair break off because it was frozen, thats all im tryin to say. maybee you have alaska greenie chick, but i have never had that experience. maybee i just have super hero hair, and all you mortals hair will break if frozen!

my hair used to freeze when i was younger. it didn't break off. i just had to go into warmer places for it to melt. get a tam or a wool hat that you can tuck your locks up in, that might help keep the warmth of your head in, and they won't freeze as readily.
I use a hair dryer in the winter 'cause going out in sub-zero weather with wet dreads has never seemed like a very bright idea.
They don't just fall off Vulgar. It's more like if the hairs wet and you happen to snap it, it'll break easier. Haha, the hair doesn't just go 'oh shit it's cold out here!' and then break lol. And I don't think it's a problem with dreads. I've gone outside here loads of times with my hair still being wet, it just makes me feel a bit colder but I haven't experienced any dreads snapping off.
Haven't Encounted This Prob Yet, Only Started My Dreads In August, Which Here In O.Z. Is The Last Month Of Winter, I'll Get Back To You On This Subject, Somewere About This Coming July. In The Meantime, Stay Tuned To This Forum... Cheers Glen.
