So my dreadlocks are a bit over a month old now, and they are starting to develop some character :) A few of them are turning wavy and what not. I would like to hear some other stories. So far I have a bunch of loose hairs which is making me separating my dreads so much harder. Any tips?

I'm just over a month in now too :)

I've noticed the past week or so theyve formed a lot more. I have loads of stray hairs and frizz but not as bad as a few weeks back... I'm pretty happy with them though. Can't really give advice but stray hairs are good apparently and help the locking process, totally normal part of dreads.

    What method did you use??

I used the twist and rip method. I would post pictures if I knew how to take pictures of the back of my head haha. I think they look alright though. :) We pretty much dreaded our hair at the same time, let's see how things differ or if we get the same results.

I started mine on the 20th of august :) I didn't really take pictures of the initial twist and rip but I just separated 3 fatty dreads into smaller dreads so I have like 7 baby dreads and 12 already locking dreads haha.

Anyways I shall post a timeline but I will only update it once a month. I don't like to take pictures all the time and figure each month the progress will be seen a lot more easier. So here is a picture of my 1 month old dreads :) It was hard to take a picture of the back of my head by myself but I managed.Hope y'all can see the dreads alright. I had a mohawk before my dreads so my hair is all sorts of crazy lengths. I need to redye them soon too. I might use food colouring

Does anyone have a problem with splitting? I just remembered that like 3 or 4 of my dread roots have started dreading into two separate dreads but since I put some dread beads I made on them they started to dread together.

None of mine joined, I just left about an inch to an inch and a half of undreaded roots and they decided to make separate dreads. I saw your pictures and yours are looking awesome as well. I have sooooo many loose hairs though :(

loose hairs are part of the fun. your baby dreads will come undone before locking back up

Yeah, I figured that. A lot of my dreads are already locking up and forming beautiful waves :) I love it. I can't wait to see how they end up a month from now.

I did the twist and rip method as well but about 8 days ago did you guys use rubber bands for the first couple weeks?

nooo don't keep the rubber band in your hair. I put rubber bands in my hair to section out the parts and once I finished the TnR method I immediately cut them out. After you do whatever method you want just leave it alone and your hair will decide what it wants to do. I personally wished I had the patience to do the natural method but I am stubborn and impatient. I wished I did though because I keep getting split roots which meant what I did to make one dread really wanted to be two.

Just a little update :) I dyed my dreads black and plan on dying a couple blue. Any suggestions? I haven't gone red in a long while.
Help me pick a colour :) Red, blue or purple

I know how you feel, I actually have had my hair purple for years now. Before I dreaded my hair I had a mohawk that was always half blue and half red. If you don't like the purple change it back to red?

I am almost 3 months in :) I just posted pictures. haha

If you like the dark purples go for Violet Jerome Russell Punky Colour. That purple is GORGEOUS, smells kinda good too. It will keep your dreads purple for a long time.
If you go to the Special Effects hair dye and the Jerome Russell punky colour website, you can find swatches of different colour hair dyes. Maybe try red wine punky colour. It is a purple reddish hue that you might like, same with Rose Red.
