I'm really sorry if this has been asked before, i have searched the forums and couldn't find anything. Anyway, i put my dreads in yesterday, and i'm loving them! I was just wondering how long i have to wait before i wrap some of the with yarn-y stuff. Some of them have a little wax in, feels nasty, didn't really help much. how long do i need to wait before i wash it? i've read things saying wait a week or 2 with new dreads, but there is so much information on the net (mainly wrong or so im learning) that i'm getting confused, Any advice would be more than welcome!
Hi, have you read this? http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=364273&f=209 Anyway as far as washing goes, there are conflicting views on what's best to do. Some say go as long as possible, others not. I personally say if it starts to itch real bad or is getting greasy then wash. Greasy hair is not good for dreadlocks. Just concentrate on getting the scalp clean rather than the hair, the water running off will clean the hair well enough. Good luck.
as for the wraps, it's up to you. I put wraps in off and on, but I will tell you this - the hair doesn't dread too well under a wrap and if you're not careful, the wrap will be eaten by the dread. but if you don't care if some of your dreads mature slower than others, go for it. I personally think the wraps are fun, I put them in from time to time and take them out when I get bored with them or when they start to hinder the dreading too much.
Yeah, I did read that post Merrivale. Thanks for the rest of the info on washing. Zilla939, thanks, I wouldn't want to leave the yarn or whatever in for a long time, i just get bored with my hair easily, at the moment the dreads are a little too short to get into a pony tail or anything so i figured beads and wraps and stuff would give me something to play with for a while.
