So, what is everyone's consensus on "goth dread wigs"?

I feel that there are two groups of opinion. The first group (which I'm part of) think that there is no such thing as a fake lock. It's more of a process than just a temporary style. The second group likes to change their look frequently. Try new stuff. That's cool, just don't claim your fake wool wig is the same thing as me putting months and years into cultivating my locks!

People who get synth dreads or wear wigs are obviously not looking for commitment and are probably the type who like to change their hair often. Which doesn't concern me at all, it's their head, it's their business.

I don't like people who change like the weather just to be what society thinks as "cool". So I think the people who do that are fags to be honest. But that's just me. I'm proud to say I've never wore a wig or dyed my hair to look "cool". No offence to people who have had or do have their hair dyed it's your hair do what you please but to me, it's just fake, like implants. Be your self. Ya know?

Maybe changing their style IS being themselves. Just because people change up their look doesn't necessarily mean that they're doing it so society will think they are cool. A lot of people look down on the goth look so i don't really think they're doing it to fit in with any one.

I agree with you, kind of. I think people who change their look like one changes a tampon simply to satisfy others and to "fit in" with different groups/cliques/stereotypes are stupid. Perhaps not stupid; maybe misguided and insecure. I feel badly for people who compulsively change their outward appearance in the hopes of pleasing everyone else.

BUT, I think it's even more dumb to make a generalization like you did. Not everyone who changes their look frequently is doing it for the sake of society, fitting in, or for the pleasure of other people. I used to change my hair and appearance frequently because I wanted to, and because I was having a hard time figuring out which look WAS me. Most people go through phases in an attempt to feel comfortable that they are representing themselves properly; not for other people, but for their own happiness.

Regardless, as for the original question, I really couldn't give a shit less about what other people do with their hair. If I did, I'd be a hypocrite, because I hate it when people judge me because of my dreads. I find it rather funny that many people who complain about dready stereotypes think that people with synthetic dreads should grow balls. Please. Everyone's tastes are different, who the fuck cares how they wear their hair!?

Personally I find the look unattractive, but no one's making me do it, so I don't truly care enough to get worked up about it.

I've seen some ppl with wicked synth dreads... not really my thing but if done right i think they can look sweet.

I guess I don't have a damn opinion, just seen some ppl pull it off.

    i agree.

and the same could easily be said about "hippies" or kids who wear... idk pretty much anything. no one should make that judgment without knowing the person, and no one should condemn a group (subculture, w/e) of people for how they choose to dress. theres nothing wrong with it and it doesnt concern you, so why would you even care enough to bash them.

i also dont see whats wrong with dressing/doing your hair a certain way because you like the way it looks on others and you want to look like that.
you can still do that and "be true to yourself" lawl.

ive been through many style phases: punk, goth, preppy... pretty much everything but scene, by the time that was cool, i was about where i am now: wearing functional, occaisionally funky clothes and not giving a shit what i look like most of the time. everyone calls me a hippie... and while i do take ideas for my styles of clothes from others (i love tribal and chill hippie sort of stuff... minus tie dye), im pretty much just me and dont give a shit if i end up dressing like a normal person or something.

yeah thats exactly how it was for me. i never actually dressed like any of my friends lol (ive had the same few friends through all of high school till now) and it was more trying to find myself, than trying to look like other people.
and i did eventually find what works for me and expresses me. right around that time (turning 17) was when i felt like i found myself and grew up a lot. thats also when i cut my old, long dreads off.

exactly what i was thinking but you word shit better than me <3

I used to wear a synth dread wig when I was going through a stage of really wanting dreads again. It was nice although maybe a bit too standy out.
