So, I've had my dreads for about 6 months...but a couple of months ago I took out the rubberbands at the ends, and now some of my locks are locking up at the top of my head, but have completely come undone at the bottom. This didn't happen with most, just some of my dreads. Is there something I can do besides cutting them to where the dreading stops? It's somewhat important that I can pull them back for work.
If you want them to be dreads ends, rubbing the tip into your palm really helps If you grab the dread where it starts to come loose with your fore and middle finger, and you rub the whole length of the undreaded hair into your palm loosely to start with then get harder, you'll start to feel it knot up. To get the best results do it for aages, like 1 minture or two, or untill you can feel balls of knots
I actually did some maintenance on my dreads this week... I did a crapload of rubbing on the ends (all of which were somewhat unraveling into straight hair) and then when they were all puffy and knotted nice I crocheted them up. I think it also helps to put your hair up in a bun (or up in some fashion) when you shower so that water doesn't run down the dreads and drip off the end. I'm convinced that water running down the ends and dripping off my dreads is pulling out the little knots... it's gravity being evil. therefore, I tie it up and just get the massive bun in the back of my head wet when it needs to be...
