Hi guys! Hubby wants to dread his mowhawk, but he has a few questions first so I am posting these on his behalf.

#1 - How long was your hair before you dreaded it and then how long was it right after? Basically he wants to know how much shorter overall his hair will be after dreading

#2 - What's the thinnest (as in circumference) that they can be? He wants really skinny ones but he wants them to eventually look pretty "clean cut" (rolled?)

#3 - He doesn't think they will thicken over time but I keep telling him they will. Who's right? And if I am right, he needs a detailed explanation of how this is possible

#4 - Since he has a mohawk, the dreads might look a little weird, and he might want to eventually have all of his head long and dreaded. But he has concerns about the sides of his heads being a problem with the mohawk dreads while they are growing out to be long enough to be dreaded. Any advice on this?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!! :sunglasse

I'll just answer all your questions with the number next to them...

#1. My hair was a little past my shoulders. When it was done it was a good couple inches shorter and as they tighten they will get shorter.

#2. They can be as thin as you make them, dreadlocks come in all sizes... They obviously can't be a few hairs because that won't stay but they can be small and thin. Keep in mind when they tighten they will get smaller looking because all the puffiness /new look goes away.

#3. They will thicken over time. It is inevitable! The hair that is suppose to fall out of your head is in a dreadlock so overtime all the hair builds up instead of falling off your head. This then makes the dreadlock appear bigger because of all the hair that would have fallen off can't fall off.

#4. Huh? I'm not sure if I understood that question right but I'll answer it as it sounds. If he has a mohawk of dreads on top they will be growing longer while the hair on the sides are growing. Why not pull them down and let them cover the awkward stage of hair? his hair will dread naturally if left alone once it starts growing if he doesnt wash it will conditioning shampoos and doesn't brush it.

1- Well… You will lose a few inches after backcombing the hair. Then your hair will shrink a bit more in the process of tightening up...... but no biggie. Its fun!!!

2- You can go really really thin. Or really really fat…. all shapes and sizes... Though if he wants smalls ones, then, id go for the girth of a quarter. you can go quit a bit smaller if you like...

3- After you dread them they will be "puffy"… But this only lasts a week or two…. and they will look at lot thinner... BUT NO FEAR! then the hair grows out…. it bunches up and grows out fatter.. and the original backcombed dreads will pull into itself and become a bit fatter... you may get some loopies in the process....
Like mamma said.. all the hair that usually falls out every year gets bunched up and dreaded into the hair.. in return it grows out thicker.

4- Simply let the side’s grow out as dreadlocks not regular hair. then he just saves you a huge process in the future
