Slowly mine are getting there at 17 months in. I have about five which are pretty much locked, and the rest are nearly there to nowhere near locked. I have some pretty severe new loops going on and I think it may have been a velcro related incident. :willy_nilly:

mine never went through the shrinking stage. maybe that's a benefit of neglect? i notice a lot of tnr and backcomb heads do a lot of shrinking...

I think the shrinking phase depends on hair texture more than method. I have coarse hair and it didn't shrink at all, I would say mine were at maturity in 8 months or so. Of course I used the DHHQ kit so that obviously helped speed things up.

What I want to know is when are they considered mature? How do you know when they are done shrinking?

Some of mine seem like they aren't going to shrink anymore while others look like they haven't shrunk at all, I have one that is almost the same length as before I started. And others that are less than half the length from when I started.

mine are backcombed in front and neglect in back and I think the front has shrunk more than the back... but I think curly thick hair shrinks less, too. mine are 7 months old and nowhere near mature.

my last set of dreads when i got rid of them at1 year and 10 months still were shrinking and tightening, the set prior to that i had for 4 and a half years and i would say mine completly finished shrinking and got really tight at the 3 and a half year mark, they were my most favorite ever set of dreads, i have pics all around my house from those days and sometimes it makes me sad because i miss them so much, but then i turn that sadness into inpiration for the set i have now!!

im past two years, i i dont think they are very mature looking yet.
i recently had a kid ask me if i was "trying to get dreads".
so i guess they arent proper dreads yet lol.
