So, basically I need to purchase some residue free soap for my dreads, and I was wondering if this would be a safe buy. http://www.drbronner.com/store/merc...Code=OLAL16&Category_Code=ALM&Store_Code=DBMS It doesn't specifically say, "Residue Free", but it's completely organic. (And expensive..... -_- ) I didn't want to buy it until I know that it's safe for my hair. I don't want buildup in the dreads or anything. Is it any good? Thanks. ^.^
Hell yeah Dr. Bronners rocks. I love it. You can you it for anything, dreaded or bald-head, from shampooing your carpet to doing laundry. And like you said its organic and safe for the earth. So that is a big YES! By the way, Yes it is a lil pricey, but it is very concentrated and says on the bottle 'dilute, dilute, dilute".
As far as I can tell the one most people here seem to recommend is the tea tree soap, either in liquid form: http://www.drbronner.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=DBMS&Category_Code=TEA or in bar form: http://www.drbronner.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=OBTT05&Category_Code=BAR&Store_Code=DBMS
All the different kinds are good. Tea tree rules, I use Eucalyptus with tea tree oil added, Almond is good, peppermint is great. Yeah, the bottles of liquid go REALLY far. Just squeeze a little Bronners into an empty shampoo bottle, and then fill it the rest of the way with water. Use that as a shampoo.
Awesome!! I'm totally going to order some now, right away. I really need something for my head. It's getting really dry with all this winter weather. Thanks.
I've heard only good things about Dr. Bronners and so I bought a small bottle of "Hemp Mint" at the local organix store and used it for the first time last night. It was quite potent and seemed to do the job well ( although I don't have dreads just yet.. just getting my hair high. )
I have Dr. Bronner's Peppermint... here's the other things i have that i could make my own something out of: (include dr. bronners) hemp oil tea tree oil witch hazel peppermint EO almond EO jojoba oil beeswax pellets mango butter I have fine hair but lots of it, going to dread after 12 years of dreaming about it. I want to make homemade tinctures for making the dreadies but i hear wax is a no-no and how would i do it the natural way? I hear something about rubberbands and a wool hat? Also, what do you think about saltwater sprays to help dry the locks? Wish I was at de beach.... I'll be re-posting this in other parts of the forum. PM's are welcome. P.S. I'm a n00b. much love and well-being -j.soul
Lol. The natural way has nothing to do with rubberbands. The natural way is the easiest way: forget about your hair. Wash it, and that is ALL. Dont comb it, dont put rubberbands in it, dont wax it, just leave it alone. Wait for like 1.5 years. Then you'll have badass dreads.
my recipe for wax is (by volume) 3 parts beeswax, I got mine from (pure) beeswax candles 2 parts doctor Bronner's (favorite kind) 1 part glycerine (no worries, will not make you dreads greasy) melt wax in a double boiler add DB then glycerin wax should be the consistency of toothpaste, rub through each dread thoroughly then wash your hair. This should wash the glycerin and most of the DB out and impregnate each dread with wax and make it smell great like whichever Dr bronners you chose, also you could theoretically use cocoa butter instead of the glycerin. :cheers2:
thats another good way of doing it loki, backcombing is faster and still natural but not as badass...

^ what's natural about a comb? Kiwi, perhaps you should read this thread as well: So, I just bought some Dr Bronner's for the first time, and...
a natural method just means ur not putting other things in to make the dreads. its just your hair and some wax. there are other dreads you can get with extensions or fake hair. the backcombing method is most deff the best method, although it takes some time.
yes, and thats why there are millions of threads made by people who backcombed their hair complaining about how it looks. 1. natural 2. TnR 3. backcomb 4. $1000 dreads 5. Globs of wax
Totally Jimbone! Your random anonymous posting has rocked my world to the core and made me see the light, can you tell me the name of a good salon where I can go for maintenance?
yo idk bout the salon, try just google-ing it near you. yelp.com is great for reviews once youve found salons that will do it. salons are only really necessary if you dont wanna start it. the maintenance is cake, its just starting it that takes a while. i just started mine, but in a slow way. just backcombing and palm rolling when i please, instead of multiple grueling hours just to start the process. best of luck.
oh and dr bronners is the shit, havent used it since starting the dreds but let me know how it works, especially compared to those other dred specific proddies.
