Downloading to music

    There are songs I like and want to have them on my laptop and USB stick.
    They are music videos and wondering what is available for free to convert videos to mp4

    I tried and the ones I tried need a degree or seem to need a mysterious step

    I want something simple that allows me control when I start and stop the recording to avoid recording ads at the beginning of some song videos
