People fear hell because they imagine it will be eternal pain and agony.....but if materials are only of this world, and heaven and hell are not of this world, then there would be no phsyical sensation in either heaven or hell. So, there really isnt anything to fear about hell, unless its some type of agony that we cant comprehend. but i doubt it =p
well I'm not sure wot kind of hell you have been taught about.... but the hell that i imagine or rather fear is a place where the pain and torture are in your mind... this doesn't exzactly fall into your "some type of agony that we can't comprehend" theory.. because i can imagine it.... living in your mind feeling crazy, lost, scared, alone, knowing that there was some place better ...not ever being able to get to it tho ...i sometimes feel that type of pain in real life and if i feel it here then i couldn't possible deny the possiblity that it could be infintely worse in hell.. not sure if that made sence but it came from me so..............go figure all smiles tho
Try lighting some kind of a match and hold your other hand over the flame and tell me if thats comprehendible? Now, imagine increasing the intensity of the heat hundreds of times and then tell me its nothing to fear. Fearing hell is something which refrains some people from doing bad deeds, can you atleast accept that?
yes i accept that but hell is nothing like we imagine. There are no worldy experiences in heaven or hell. Heaven is where God dwells. God is not of this world. Thus, no experience we would experience in heaven or hell would be anything like anythign weve experience on earth. No, not even "feeling lost".
And Cab, do you actually buy into all that fire and brimstone nonsense? Do you really believe hell is a hot, firey place?
A firm believer in hell... Does it make you feel good to think of all those people suffering? Do you pull the wings off butterflies too (that's not a sin, after all)?
yeah... have you ever felt lost....? or sad....? ..... wot i mean is maybe just maybe those unpleasent things that we feel when we feel lost, confused and all that jazz is just a preview of wot could be waiting for us in hell..... so God isn't of this earth but he made it and everything in it too....if you believe in that theory.....so wouldn't it be conceivable.. (sp?) duh me...that he might include in this experiance some pain that is similar to hell......... if you have felt pain..nonphysical... maybe you can see where i am coming from...that doesn't mean that i expect or even want you to agree just to understand my point of view
A few decades ago, people burned thamselves alive in protest over the suffering of the Vietnamese people. They didn't scream, they hardly moved. They remained reticent, passive and unflinching. Pain is controllable. It's a matter of mind over body (and I suppose that once the body is gone, then it's just a matter of mind). I've suffered 3rd degree burns, and never cried out. I think perhaps you have a misconception of what hell is really like (if it exists at all). I'm of the opinion that like heaven, we create our own hell here on earth. I've known suffering that makes burning seem like a paper cut by comparison. Some forms of mental anguish are far more painful than any physical torment you can dream up.
i still think that if there were a heaven, it would just be nothingness, just like the end of your existence. I mean, Jesus stressed eternal life after death with God, and whats worse, but no life after death. Since "everything good comes from God", hell (the absence of God) would be a state devoid of all good. So it could just be nothing.
I think colors' point is that if there's no body, there can be no pain, as pain is a physical thing. You can't burn a soul, ya know? Personally, I define heaven and hell as states we experience in the world. Hell is total ego control, heaven is total ego death. Like good and evil, they are the extreme ends of things we experience daily. Any negetivity falls on the hell-side of the midpoint, positivity falls on the heaven-side. All experience is a continuum between two poles, in this case, good and bad (heaven and hell).
Being thus combined only enlargens the velocity of agony. Yes, I would rather be burned upside down then to say a few words of disbelief so yes there are things that are alot worse then this tiny little fire we have with us.
I didnt know this, so christian and jews hold a belief that its the spirits(without bodies) that are being punished?
which is strange, seeing as both Jesus and Mary "ascended both body and soul into heaven". I wonder where their bodies are amongts a heaven filled with souls
Actually, no one gets into the afterlife except bodily. That's the whole point of the resurrection of the dead during Revelations. Which is why it is also reffered to as "Judgement day." Our souls are just sort of asleep until then, according to Christian myth.
