I think the diference is that Imus is an establishment figure; people like John Kerry, John McCain, Rudy Guilianni, Joe Bieden, regularly appear on the show. I was a listener. The thought is that Imus would be held to a higher standard than a rapper who gains "cred" by acting dirty. What Imus said was stupid, Firing him just sets a precedent for firing somebody else in the future and it goes back and forth. Its really not about Rev. Sharpton its about Rutgers Womens Basketball, did that call for Imus to lose his job? Imus just made more trouble for himself by goinng on Sharptons radio show.
