Dominic Cummings, Boris's former director of communications, is about to 'put the boot in' on the incompetence of the scumbag 'nasty party's' handling of the covid pandemic.

Ministers planned to build Covid ‘herd immunity’, says Cummings
    Gavin Cordon
22 May 2021, 9:34 pmDominic Cummings has said the Government originally intended to let coronavirus spread through the community in an attempt to build “herd immunity”.

Boris Johnson’s former top adviser said that when the disease emerged in early 2020, the plan had been to develop resistance in the population in the months leading up to September.

In a series of tweets he said that it was only abandoned in early March after Downing Street was warned that it would lead to a “catastrophe”.

Mr Cummings’ latest intervention comes as he prepares to give evidence on Wednesday to MPs on the Commons health and science committees who are investigating the Government’s response to the pandemic.

Downing Street is braced for a potentially highly damaging onslaught following his acrimonious departure from No 10 at the end of last year.

In a foretaste of what to expect, he said that there may have been no need for any lockdowns if the country had had the “the right preparations and competent people in charge”.

Instead he said that at the beginning of March last year, the plan had been “herd immunity” and that claims to the contrary by Health Secretary Matt Hancock were “bullshit”.

He also strongly attacked the media for accepting the Government’s denials.

“Media generally abysmal on Covid but even I’ve been surprised by one thing: how many hacks have parroted Hancock’s line that ‘herd immunity wasn’t the plan’ when ‘herd immunity by September’ was ‘literally the official plan in all documents/graphs/meetings’ until it was ditched,” he tweeted

“Yes the media is often incompetent but something deeper is at work: much of SW1 (the Westminster postcode) was happy to believe Hancock’s bullshit that ‘it’s not the plan’ so they didn’t have to face the shocking truth. Most political hacks believe in ‘the system’…

“In week of March 9, No10 was made aware by various people that the official plan would lead to catastrophe. It was then replaced by Plan B. But how ‘herd immunity by September’ could have been the plan until that week is a fundamental issue in the whole disaster.”

At the time, the Government’s chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, had said that if they tried to suppress the disease “very, very hard” it would simply bounce back when restrictions were released.

Instead he suggested the aim was to “build up some kind of herd immunity” so more people were resistant to the disease and transmission was reduced.

In his tweets, Mr Cummings said there had been “so much lock down confusion”.

“Obviously they’re ‘destructive’. But if you have to do it because alternative is ‘hundreds of thousands choking to death and no NHS for months for everybody else and economy sunk because everybody hiding in terror’ then earlier/harder is better for health AND economy,” he said.

“If we’d had the right preparations and competent people in charge, we would probably have avoided lockdown 1, ‘definitely’ no need for lockdowns 2 and 3.

“Given the plan was AWOL/disaster and awful decisions delayed everything, lockdown 1 became necessary.”

Everything here was my first view from day one, but after Beijing flue very nearly overwhelmed the NHS panic set in.

New virus mutations seem to originate from China. I blame this on their exploration of bat colonies, some of which have had no human interaction for thousands of years.
Not everyone shares my view, but I am fairly certain that China has been aware of the mutations of Corona (a virus present in all animals other than humans since the dawn of time)
In my opinion the mutations started around 2017, but China played it down. The theory that attempts to produce a vaccine resulted in variant 19 is plausible, but I strongly doubt that any attempts were made to weaponize it, since the west is the golden Goose to China.
From all this, I am starting to think that these so called new variants may well have predated 19 and been slow in taking off.

As I am sure that you are aware, viruses kill no one, but while the immune system is fighting them pathogenic bacteria tend to thrive. These either attack the raspatory system, ultimately leading to septicaemia, or the digestive system causing renal failure leading to all the other organs shutting down due to the lack of purification of their blood supply.
The point of using antibiotics is time critical in controlling bacteria and without hospital analysis early introduction renders them useless. This has become an increasing problem with GP's prescribing them over the last few decades. .

With all this, the government were in a quandary, being dammed whichever path they followed.
ICU beds were only part of the problem. The real problems set in when panic sent people flocking to the hospitals and they were unable to triage the one in a thousand people who needed the ICU treatment in time. This without caused a lot of deaths in the US, but we managed to cope fairly well.
Slowing the virus while allowing immunity to spread naturally became a catch 22 situation. Remembering that the government officials had no medical expertise things were not always ideal. Virus progression is a complex medical subject and only a small handful fully understand it. Assuming that seniority finds the best doctor is nonsensical, I would not expect the worlds leading cardio thoracic surgeons to have the first clue about the problems affecting my middle ears.

    Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
As you already know, I thought that the lockdowns were preventing immunity spread, but since the public can be so stupid, it was difficult to find an alternative.
Perhaps a full explanation of what was needed by all of us INCLUDING THE REASONING, may have been an alternative, but I have a lot of doubts.

Far from helping, the media were scaremongering, perhaps as a result of ignorance. However, if they had used the ADDITIONAL mortality figures this time last year, would the public have ignored the restrictions and made the figures real..
I will leave you to decide on that one.

PS, I wonder whether the windbags who are now crawling out of the woodwork would have had the guts to put their theories into practice last year. I somehow doubt it.

As a scumbag 'nasty party' member/accolyte/supporter/voter, your reticence to accept that this self-same scumbag 'nasty party' took decisions which were clearly wrong, not because of ignorance, but because they were protecting their own self interests or the interests of their cronies and 'party' donors is noted.

    Good Law Project

Today in the High Court, Government's lawyers set out their defence to our legal challenge over PPE contracts handed to “VIP” companies. Government claims that companies in the VIP Lane did not materially benefit from their special treatment, and that it was simply a different route by which they could win contracts.

The evidence tells a different story.

Emails between officials reveal that companies with a political connection were given priority. A key member of the VIP Lane team wrote, ‘Speaking personally, I don’t want a middling VIP lead prioritised over a credible high priority lead any more than you do...However, if two leads are otherwise equal priority and one is VIP, some weighting to the VIP is helpful.’

In another exchange, an official set out how companies placed in the “VIP” Lane should be treated, explaining “Follow standard procedure, but take a little more time over correspondence, ‘hand-holding’ the supplier where necessary”. They followed up to say, ”Personally, I’ve found VIP cases require about three times the time of a standard case.”

What is perhaps most striking about Government's defence of the “VIP” Lane is its apparent determination to keep quiet the details of the politically-connected beneficiaries - and which Ministers or senior officials referred them. When the National Audit Office, the official spending watchdog, investigated the award of PPE contracts, Government intervened to prevent it from revealing the names of companies in the “VIP” Lane.

If the Government really has nothing to hide, why doesn’t it just come clean? Thanks to information uncovered through this litigation, we will be publishing details of a slew of other “VIPs” very shortly.
